Wes Welker, done in New England?

Wes Welker 300x203 Wes Welker, done in New England?Tears filled his eyes as Wes Welker of the New England Patriots explained to the media that he should have caught the pass from Tom Brady that would have moved them closer to winning Super Bowl XLVI.

A day after the Super Bowl and the New England faithful are still bashing Welker including Tom Brady’s wife. They might want to hold off bashing a potential free agent that has averaged 111 receptions in the last five years and has been Brady’s most consistent receiver.

It was Welker’s first drop with the Patriots that was 10 yards or more downfield and only having five drops all season, Welker blames himself.

“The ball is right there. I’ve just got to make the play. It’s a play I’ve made a thousand times in practice and everything else. It comes to the biggest moment of my life and don’t come up with it. It’s discouraging,” Welker told reporters.

“It hit me right in the hands. I mean, it’s a play I never drop, I always make. The most critical situation and I let the team down.

“We work on it all the time and try to make plays. It’s one that will take a while to shake off, that’s for sure,” he added.

Welker is one of the crucial parts of the Patriots offense and is one of the best slot receivers in the NFL. While the pass wasn’t perfect it is one that he makes nine out of 10 times, but to pin the loss on the guy is insane.

The loss isn’t solely on Welker’s shoulders as there were others that dropped passes and one quarterback that made an inexplicable throw down field leading to an interception.

Welker has been a great player for a long period of time. You can’t blame a Super Bowl loss just on him. Brady had a very rough  first quarter.

  • Eduardo

welker is one of the best receivers in N.F.L. history, everybody drops one once in awhile,a shame it  was in the super bowl,it was a great game, maybe even better than their first  clash for the title, props to both teams

I think the Pats fans should run him out of town!!!  Then maybe the Giants or Jets can sign him next year.  ;)

  • John

Why doesn’t Prettyboy get any blame?  Its always someone else & Mrs. Brady should just keep her mouth shut cuz appparently she makes an easy living doing just that.

    • BaGa

now you know how ravens fans feel. they are the ones who belonged in the super bowl not thwe cheating pats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous Pats Fan

As a Pats fan, I don’t blame Wes Welker. Nobody’s perfect.

Reasons for the Pats loss: Stupid penalties, the defense not making turnovers when they needed to, Brady making less than stellar passes, other receivers dropping the ball, injuries, lack of a defensive coordinator, our offensive coordinator making questionable game time decisions, and poor officiating by not calling holding, face mask, unsportsmanlike conduct, and unnecessary roughness penalties on the Giants.

Here we go with the “No calls” whine. Apparently, you were watching a completely different game. Patsie DB’s were draped over the Giants’ receivers, there before the ball with contact with no calls. A D-lineman flops after being knocked off of his feet to similate a hold, then winks and smiles when asked about it after the game. I’m a Giants fan, a Lifer and it’s like this: we got our asses handed to us in many games this year, never an excuse about injuries, lack of calls, bogus calls (watch the game film from the Green Bay playoff game) etc…from me or thousands of other Giants fans.F&*^ing man up and take defeat like a manfan and not like Brady’s big mouth b*&^ch of a wife.

        Michael,
Don’t forget about the fine acting of the g-men on injuries through out the year. Like the time that two of them went down and oen suddenly popped back up.

Wes Welker isn’t to blame on the TEAMS loss…He’s a great player and I don’t think the pats will let him go his a big part of this team! Time to regroup and fix things like on efense..There are issues threw out the team and off season those things will get a addressed.

  • faircomments

THIS IS THE SUPER BOWL. THESE ARE TWO EXCELLENT TEAMS WHICH PLAYED THEIR BEST. WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS AND LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES. IF WE DID’NT, WHERE WOULD YOU BE. WE WILL NEVER BE PERFECT AND MISTAKES WILL BE MADE FOREVER. END OF STORY!!!!

    • Rick_pat_jim2000

Perfect, we all make mistakes. But both players a great at their positions. Please everybody stop hating tne Pats. There were the 2 best teams in the game and there had to be a winner, we fell short, next year . Pats Forever Fan…

i love wes. i feel really bad for him, hes an amazing player and my favoirte on the pats. yesterdays game was a heartbreaker, im still upset.  but i dont think football games are about pointing fingers. if you lose, your whole team loses. get them again next season..

  • George Venturelli

It was a terrible play, and one that probably cost us the game.  It was even harder to watch Welker have to take the abuse for it after being one of our most consistent players.  He’s a great player, and having him in anything but a New England uniform is crazy…regardless of some short term heat he’s taking.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/B4K6PYHRXIHQG2JHYDPIPTE7DA Pat

Welker will be back, probably finish his playing carrer with the Patriots.  He’s a great player.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_G23QQBT2SPAUO6T2J6PHXVKIPI Ron

The Patriots are better with Wes Welker, and Wes is better with the Patriots.  Ask Deion Branch about the grass being greener elsewhere.

Brady needs good receivers cause he can’t throw that good.

  • Ronald Tucker

Wes Welker is definitely not the blame for the Patriots lost…Rush Limbaugh jinxed the entire team. The second half the team played as though they were in a zone!

  • Ronald Tucker

Wes Welker definitely did not cost the Patriots the game. Rush Limbaugh jinxed the entire team. Second half the Patriots played like they were in some type of zone!

  • Kevg2009

You can’t blame Wes Welker for losing the entire game based on one crucial, catchable, but nowhere near perfectly thrown pass. They say 9 out of 10… Well, if a guy kicks your a$$ 9 out of 10 times,, the one time you land a lucky punch, it’s probably not smart to jump up & down and laugh cuz ya basically have 9 more beatings on the way. Just a thought….

Did Belichek have a brain cramp with less than 2 minutes left in the
game?  You tell the defense to let the Giants score on their first down,
give Brady more than 18 seconds to score a TD, you win the game.  Bill
    Beli-check-out?

  • Dennyj02

Welker is a Great reciever.. Any team would love to have him.  Better be carefull New England, you may be bashing a potential ‘hall of famer’ who
will elect not to continue his days with you….

  • Kool-v

Why wasn’t Chad Ochocinco played? Instead of Gronk?

  • GoBears

Designed throw or not, Brady should stick up for Welker.  Team mates should have each others backs, but Brady’s ego will not let him do it.  I am so glad the Patriots lost because i did not want to to win his 4th Super Bowl.  Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees would have stood up for him.

  • dan young

I dont want to put blame on any player, but to try to run down the clock in the 4th quarter when were only 3 points up was a big mistake .
