TPF’s hottie of the week: Lingerie Football League
If you were not aware of the LFL or Lingerie Football League, you are about to gain interest as The Penalty Flag’s hottie of the week goes to the LFL who at this point is doing a better job than the UFL at marketing and developing this league.
The Lingerie Football League is a woman’s 7-on-7 tackle American football league, created in 2009, with games played in the fall and winter at NFL, NHL and MLS arenas and stadiums.
In 2009, ten LFL inaugural season teams competed in a 20 week season and games were shot in 1080i high-definition and broadcasted on some Network TV affiliate stations, international stations, and on-line.
The league was founded by Mitchell S. “Mitch” Mortaza as the concept originated from the Super Bowl halftime alternative television special called the Lingerie Bowl. It draws millions of viewers as a pay-per-view event broadcast annually directly opposite the Super Bowl halftime show.
These women hold nothing back as the play is full-contact and similar to arena football. Uniforms are nothing other than shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads, garters, bras, panties, and hockey style helmets.
What were the chances that in the opening game of the inaugural season in 2009 that the Quarterback for the Chicago Bliss is sacked, and her shorts are pulled down revealing a bit of ass?
Tanyka Renee, who plays for the Philadelphia Passion, is one of eight Lingerie Football League players to be pictured in the shower in February’s Playboy.
Though she’s always been athletic, and has long played basketball, Renee says that she knew nothing about football until she joined the LFL. Now she’s serious about it and doesn’t like it that people have misconceptions about the players. “We do get a playbook. We are out there in less than an NFL uniform, but we’re hitting just as hard,” she says.
“These are real athletes and we’re very, very competitive.”
These women take this league very serious but it’s hard to take it serious when they are dressed to gain attention.
The play is similar to the NFL but there are no field goals and no punts but there is a kickoff to start the game and second half. After a touchdown is scored a team can attempt a one-point conversion from the two yard line or a two-point conversion from the five yard line.
Teams consist of 20 players, only 14 of whom are active on game day. This means that there are usually three or four players who play both offense and defense.
The field is 50-yards between end zones, 30 yards wide, and the end zones are 8 yards deep, roughly the same as other indoor leagues.
A game consists of two 17-minute halves, separated by a 15-minute halftime. In the event of a tie, an 8-minute sudden-death overtime is played.
