Jacksonville Jaguars saved free-falling Blaine Gabbert, why?

Blaine Gabbert 1

Blaine Gabbert was free falling like Tom Petty and then out of nowhere the Washington Redskins traded with the Jacksonville Jaguars and with the 10th pick of the 2011 NFL draft they selected QB – Blaine Gabbert.

It’s obvious the Jacksonville Jaguars struggled at quarterback last season. In fact there was even a time where former Buffalo Bills QB Trent Edwards stepped in.

Now that is struggling…

The Jaguars passing game was ranked 27th in the league at only 191 yards per game and with QB – David Garrard still at the helm this allows Blaine Gabbert the time to develop, which he needs.

Blaine Gabbert’s decision to enter the draft is somewhat surprising, but when Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck decided not to enter the 2011 NFL draft he knew it was his time.

It was rumored that some teams had him the number one quarterback prospect on their board because of his size, athleticism, and arm strength.

It could be argued that the only reason Gabbert was ever in the conversation as a top pick was because of the absence of Luck.

NFL Network stated “We’ve all heard about Gabbert’s issues with accuracy on deep throws and that his adjustment to playing under center could take some time. We have recently spoken to scouts and coaches who simply haven’t been blown away by Gabbert. In their film evaluation of Gabbert, we were told there is just nothing special that jumps out. He’s good. Nobody is saying he can’t play. It’s just that typically, a top quarterback takes over a game or two, leads some signature drives and, at times, looks like the best player on the field, one person said. You just don’t see that with Gabbert.”

Against four top-35 defenses (Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma State and Navy) Gabbert completed just 46.3 percent of his attempts for an average of 208.5 yards.

The Missouri Tigers lost all those games.

Just because he has a strong arm does not mean that he should automatically be chosen in the first round.

Jamarcus Russell was chosen 1st overall due to his strong arm and we all know where that fat ass is right now.
