Give him a chance: Tim Tebow replaces Kyle Orton
Down 23-10 against the San Diego Chargers the Denver Broncos have replaced QB Kyle Orton with Tim Tebow.
Orton has been ineffective the entire game only completing six passes for 34 yards midway through the third quarter.
The choice to go with Tebow will be a scrutinized one during the week, but Tebow is a former Heisman trophy winner, a national champion, and a 2010 first-round pick.
To many his accuracy sets him back and that along with his throwing motion those points will never make him a starting quarterback in many teams’ minds.
Tebow was a decent starting quarterback for the Broncos last season, especially considering he was a rookie who worked hard to change his throwing motion. Tebow went 1-2 including a comeback victory against the Houston Texans where he threw for over 300 yards.
Despite his jersey being the number one selling NFL product last season Tebow was slated as the no. 1 quarterback to start the season but was outplayed by Kyle Orton during the preseason and also due to the fact that the Broncos had trouble finding a trade partner for Orton.
During the last few weeks and as the Denver Broncos continue to decline the calls for Tebow have intensified as Orton has racked up six interceptions and two fumbles to go along with his eight TD’s.
What is more interesting is Coach John Fox reiterated just last Monday that a change at quarterback isn’t the cure-all with the Broncos coming off a disheartening performance at Green Bay. Tebow did see one snap during that game…a loss for one yard on a run.
The real question is what happens if Tebow doesn’t perform as the fans expect? Will they start chanting Quinn…Quinn…?
