Give him a chance: Tim Tebow replaces Kyle Orton

Tim Tebow sits on the bench

Down 23-10 against the San Diego Chargers the Denver Broncos have replaced QB Kyle Orton with Tim Tebow.

Orton has been ineffective the entire game only completing six passes for 34 yards midway through the third quarter.

The choice to go with Tebow will be a scrutinized one during the week, but Tebow is a former Heisman trophy winner, a national champion, and a 2010 first-round pick.

To many his accuracy sets him back and that along with his throwing motion those points will never make him a starting quarterback in many teams’ minds.

Tebow was a decent starting quarterback for the Broncos last season, especially considering he was a rookie who worked hard to change his throwing motion. Tebow went 1-2 including a comeback victory against the Houston Texans where he threw for over 300 yards.

Despite his jersey being the number one selling NFL product last season Tebow was slated as the no. 1 quarterback to start the season but was outplayed by Kyle Orton during the preseason and also due to the fact that the Broncos had trouble finding a trade partner for Orton.

During the last few weeks and as the Denver Broncos continue to decline the calls for Tebow have intensified as Orton has racked up six interceptions and two fumbles to go along with his eight TD’s.

What is more interesting is Coach John Fox reiterated just last Monday that a change at quarterback isn’t the cure-all with the Broncos coming off a disheartening performance at Green Bay. Tebow did see one snap during that game…a loss for one yard on a run.

The real question is what happens if Tebow doesn’t perform as the fans expect? Will they start chanting Quinn…Quinn…?

Tebow is the man! He should start the rest of the season for Denver. His energy alone is more valuable to the Broncos than the entire Orton package!!!! Start ‘em!

The article states “Orton was awful in the first half. He completed 6 of 13 passes for 34 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.”

That would be a career day for Tim Tebows.

Given the quality of the rest of the team around him and what he has yet learn throwing Tebow in as some sort of savior might wreck what very well could be a stand-out career.

I watched Tim for three years when he played at Florida and in my 60+ years have never seen a more dedicated, harder working, or more team spirited athlete. He was the spark that drove the Gators to their third National Championship and played a major role in their second when Chris Leak was a the starter. He is a multi-dimensional threat who can run like a back or tight end, can throw a ball with authority when needed, and through shear force of will lift a teams spirits enough to win against tremendous odds. What he may yet lack in technique is more the made up for in the character of the man.

Kyle Orton is a well known quantity, who in 7 years of league play with two teams has never shown any ability to be better then poor second string or fair third string. He has rushed for fewer yards in 97 games the Tebow has in 12, and has never scored more then 20 touchdowns in a year while Tebow has scored 13 in a total of 12 games. As we all know Tebow hasn’t really played 12 games either, more like 4 if you total up the minutes.

Personally I’d like to see him traded to a team that wants him (Denver & importantly Elway don’t really)and can bring him along the right way

I agree 100% trade him to another team who wants him, and watch him become great. I watch a lot of these other starting QBs in the NFL and he out plays them with ease, he’s a winner and he will make some other team a winner.

I TOLD YOU WHAT HE WOULD DO!!!!!!!!!!THE “KID” IS “GREAT”" HE MAY NOT LOOK LIKE YOUR IDEA OF A “PRO QUARTERBACK” BUT HE HAS THE “WILL TO WIN” AND “MOTIVE”…………ELWAY YOUR A “LOOSER” IF YOU LET HIM GET AWAY….AS FAR AS COX, “WE’RE” ALL WATCHING YOU!!!!!!!!JUST CUZ YOU HAVE A CONTRACT DOESN’T MEAN YOU KNOW EVERYTHING…LOOK WHAT HAPPEN TO THE GUY YOU REPLACED. ELWAY YOU LET THE 49ER’S COACH SLIP THROUGH YOUR FINGERS DON’T DO THE SAME WITH “TEBOW.”

I totally agree with Bob M. Tebow brings to the table a heart and a passion that motivates his teammates to play better and encourages them even though things aren’t going so well and that will always make the game exciting to the fans even if they lose. Fans will not walk away disappointed and the stats won’t matter. I’m a Charger fan but found myself rooting for Tebow to do good. I love athletes that have a passion for their sport.
