Over the last five years, anyone can tell that social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have dominated the internet. It is a known fact that Facebook is the most popular website on the internet garnering more hits a day than other website. Social media sites are the norm and it is through these sites that people from all over the world are able to keep in touch and the newest trend as far as the sports world goes is being able to converse with fellow fans and better yet get the latest news of their favorite teams through their official pages. This is ever so true with the Washington Redskins.
The Washington Redskins have a huge fan following on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. The team itself has an official Facebook page and it is through this page that the team is able to keep fans informed of the latest comings and goings of the team. On game days, the official Redskins Facebook page will update with statuses of the game. Facebook also has been a place for Redskins team members such as Reed Doughty, Adam Carriker, Stephen Bowen, and Brandon Banks to interact with fellow fans. There are also fans that dedicate their pages to the Redskins and have colorful names such as Vanessa Redskin, Skins Superfan, and the simply put Redskins Fan. Even the unofficial mascot of the Redskins in the iconic Chief Zee has his own Facebook page.
Youtube has also been a haven for the hardcore Redskins fan. One such Youtube site or ‘channel’ is one called ESkins (www.youtube.com/eskins757). Youtube is known for its Trash Talk Circle or TTC and it is here where NFL fans create their own videos and dedicate their own Youtube channels to their favorite teams and engage in frendly smack talk with fellow rivals. The TTC is very popular on Youtube and the ESkins channel is popular with Redskins fans and even had it mentioned on the weekly Redskins show on Comcast Sportsnet in Washington, DC that features the voice of the Redskins in Larry Michael.
Social media sites are most identified with people keeping in touch with each other and people being able to find old friends but has also become an avenue for sports teams such as the Washington Redskins to bring themselves in another fashion to their followers. This is so much the truth with sites such as Facebook and Youtube. Try going to the ESkins Youtube page or go to Facebook and search for fellow Redskins fans. You will be surprised with just how many hardcore Skins fans are out there in the internet universe.
