Could Darrell Green be Coming Back to the Redskins?
Any Washington Redskins fan from the 1980′s and 1990′s can tell you that without a doubt the player that left a lasting impression on the team during that time period was none other than the NFL Hall of Famer and All Pro cornerback in #28 Darrell Green. He was the Skins first round pick in the 1983 Draft and right from his rookie season he would contribute and go on to play in seven Pro Bowls and win two Super Bowls. Green was well-known as the ‘Fastest Man In The NFL’ and would be named one of the 70 All Time Redskins.
It is hard to believe that it has been ten years since Darrell Green has suited up for the Redskins but now there is small rumor that is floating around that Green maybe returning to his beloved team. The Redskins defensive backfield was one of the worst in the league this past season and it was that backfield that was guilty of losing several games during the course of the year, ie. games against the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, and Dallas Cowboys. Apparently, Green became disgusted with the lackluster play and as in his words, ‘I think that I can help’.
Green recently went on to his Twitter page and stated that he would be willing to help coach the secondary after watching the season ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I am starting to change my mind about not wanting to coach the Redskins secondary. Maybe i could help coach Shanahan bring a winner back to the Burgundy & Gold.”
Green went on to Tweet,
“There is no other way to say it! As a community ( the DMV) we desperately need our Redskins to return to glory!”
Green’s comment was also on his Facebook page and the Skins faithful rallied around him and Green would later comment that he appreciated the support and that he was serious about going about this new possible venture. There has been some word that recently fired Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris was a possible candidate for the secondary coaching position but if the great Darrell Green has anything to do with it, there is a possibility that the Redskins’ faithful could be seeing one of their former greats back on the sideline.
