It was somewhat a surprise when after a 10 win season the Chicago Bears decided to part ways with Lovie Smith.  Smith became one of several “Black Monday” victims joining multiple other NFL coaches who were fired.  The question now for the Bears becomes who?  Who will be the next head coach in Chicago?  What about Andy Reid?

After 14 seasons Reid has been fired as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and several sources over the weekend stated that Reid was already attempting to assemble a coaching staff for a potential new team in 2013 in anticipation of his firing from Philadelphia.  Andy Reid to the Chicago Bears?

Andy Reid may be a perfect fit for the Chicago Bears offensive talent.  Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Matt Forte resemble the playing styles of Donovan McNabb, LeSean McCoy, Terrell Owens and DeSean Jackson; all were past or current players for the Eagles that Reid coached with high levels of success in Philadelphia.  Reid is an offensive mind who is a master at developing quarterbacks and would be able to do something that Lovie Smith never could; give the Bears an offensive identity with Jay Cutler and make offensive in-game adjustments to counterattack opposing defensive game plans.

The two problems with Andy Reid are that one, he is a pass first coach.  Traditional Bears fans who appreciate the ground it out offensive approach of the past definitely won’t get that with Reid.  However given the Bears current roster they are better constructed for a pass driven attack.  The second problem with Reid is that like Smith, he too couldn’t deliver a Super Bowl win.  Both coaches were 0-1 in the big game.

Whether Andy Reid is eventually hired as the Chicago Bears head coach or not remains to be seen.  Either way it will be interesting to watch this scenario play out.  Change can be exciting so let’s hope the Bears land the right guy.  Until then, Bear Down.

  1. Reid would be a good fit…but I doubt the Bears front office even sniffs his way…the fans would prefer Cowher and I believe Cowher would be an awesome fit and a great coach for the Bears….and definitely give them a solid leader with the courage to take the necessary risks to make the playoffs and reach the big Game and WIN!

    • Neither will happen… Why you would want retreads. Could have kept Lovie you going to bring either 1 of them guys. Andy Reid don’t have no more he needs a year off or more time. His son died how you coach a week after your child died. Cowher wife died he has not coached since. Please get off this train. McCoy from Denver will be ideal…
