49ers ink Randy Moss but is he just a decoy?
The San Francisco 49ers filled a huge void on offense by signing formerly retired wide receiver Randy Moss to a one year contract on Monday. Moss, now 35, last played in the NFL in 2010; a season that saw the talented but often outspoken receiver on three NFL teams. Moss will line up opposite of new teammate Michael Crabtree and form arguably the most dangerous wide out tandem in the NFL. Because of Moss’ ability to stretch a defense in his sleep he adds a new dimension to the 49ers offense. But is he just a decoy?
NFL rewind: Randy Moss ‘Straight cash homey’ (video)
NFL Free Agent wide receiver Randy Moss doesn’t write checks. In this 2004 impromptu interview Moss was asked by a reporter how he was going to pay the $10,000 fine that he received for his infamous “mooning” of the Green Bay Packer fans at Lambeau field.
In a classic Randy Moss moment, Moss sporting a hoodie, nonchalantly replied “straight cash homey”
When you’re a baller like Moss and pay 10 grand fines with straight cash, sooner or later you’re bound to go broke. Is this why Moss announced his desire to return to the NFL? Is he running a little low on “straight cash?”
Whether or not that is the case, one thing is for certain. Moss will bring an added entertainment value to whatever NFL team he signs with. Be it his play on the field or his comments during an interview, you never know what to expect from the gifted receiver and because it, all eyes will be on Randy Moss in 2012; good, bad, and ugly.

Running low: Do these NFL receivers have enough in the tank?
At one time Hines Ward, Terrell Owens and Randy Moss were the best at their position. Now these NFL wide receivers have been shunned or are reportedly tapped out. The problem is, they think that they still have something left to contribute to a NFL team. What do you think?
1) Randy Moss 6-4, 210 lbs age 35: In his day was one of the most dynamic wide receivers of his time posting 14,858 receiving yards and 153 touchdowns. He was remembered most for his career with the Minnesota Vikings. He most recently had a breakout season with the New England Patriots 1,493 yards and 23 touchdowns. After that he slowly fizzled out finally playing his last season with the Tennessee Titans. Randy Moss reportedly said that he has a lot left in the tank and would be willing to play for a playoff team. Does he have enough to contribute?
2) Hines Ward 6-0, 205 lbs age 35: he is one of the most complete wide receivers to ever play the game. Hines didn’t have the down field speed, but made his way by blocking and running effective routes. 12,083 yards and 85 touchdowns are definitely hall of fame numbers. Hines has only played for the Pittsburgh Steelers since 1998, but is now faced with the possibility of being cut because of the emergence of Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown. Ward wants to continue to play for the Steelers, but does he have anything left in the tank? Does he have enough left to contribute?
3) Terrell Owens 6-3, 224 lbs age 38: Owens has overshadowed his hall of fame career 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns with his loud talking, show boating, need for spotlight and attention. He has taken his circus from San Francisco to Philadelphia, Dallas, Buffalo and Cincinnati. He has padded his image using Twitter and from the T.O. Show, but has struggled to land on a NFL team. He has reportedly fought back from a serious knee injury but is that the reason a team will not take a chance on him? Or is it that an excuse to cover up the fact that no team wants the drama he brings? He claims he can still play. Does he have enough to contribute?
There’s not much debate that all of these players will enjoy their place in the Hall of Fame one day. But can they still contribute to a team now? What do you think?

Should the Chicago Bears bring in Randy Moss, Terrell Owens?
The Chicago Bears need wide receivers. Randy Moss and Terrell Owens are future Hall of Fame receivers who still have game in them and are seeking employment. The Bears need Moss and Owens. Sound rational? Sure. Is it true? You better believe it. The Chicago Bears should make a bold move and bring in Moss and Owens for the 2012 NFL season.
If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times. When the Bears committed to quarterback Jay Cutler it was a commitment to the passing game. Cutler has a rocket of an arm and last season he proved just how effective he can be with second-rate receivers when the pass protection holds up. So far in his tenure with the Bears Cutler has had receivers named the likes of Johnny Knox, Earl Bennett, Devin Hester, Roy Williams, Sam Hurd, and Dane Sanzenbacher. Taking nothing away from what Hester has contributed in the return game or to the bond that Bennett and Cutler have formed on the field, but giving Jay those receivers is like putting water in the gas tank of a Mercedes. You can fill it all day long but it just ain’t going anywhere.
Recently the news broke that Randy Moss is looking to make a return to the NFL. Meanwhile Terrell Owens has evoked squatter’s rights with the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League. Give – me – a –break! Can anyone argue that any of the receivers on the Bears current roster is a better talent than Moss or Owens? Probably not.
Look, Moss and Owens both have chips on their shoulders and are desperate to prove their doubters wrong. Both are aging and neither has won a Super Bowl. Each will come with baggage and therefore at a bargain price that will leave any potential buyer with nothing to lose. Why not bring them in and try to catch fire for a season or two? If it works the Bears organization would look like geniuses, and if it fails, simply cut the losses and move on. Either way, it wouldn’t be any worse than the Roy Williams and Sam Hurd debacle of 2011. At least Moss and Owens have proven themselves as legitimate star receivers throughout their NFL careers.

Randy Moss: 5 teams that could take a chance
Randy Moss was once touted as one of the greatest of all-time, but his attitude and work-ethic left much to be desired.
Excessive Celebration: 5 Over-the-Top NFL Touchdown Encores
The legendary Vince Lombardi is credited with saying when you get to the end zone act like you’ve been there before. He must be turning over in his grave with some of the off the wall touchdown celebrations that have occurred over the last decade. The latest came last Sunday as Buffalo Bills wide out Stevie Johnson was fined mocked New York Jets’ wide receiver Plaxico Burress’ accidental shooting of himself in the thigh back in 2008. Reports have surfaced that Johnson was fined $10,000 by the league for his excessive celebration. Where the NFL under Commissioner Roger Goodell can at times indeed be the No Fun League, some of these football players forget that they are professionals and instead choose to put on amateur side shows of sorts. Sure, some are funny and others harmless, but when is it cross the line and become too much? When is it time to act like you’ve been there before?
Here are five excessive end zone celebrations that have received fines throughout the past 10 seasons.
Wes Welker Makes a Snow Angel: Yes even the good guys can come up with a devil of a celebration. Late in the 2008 season the New England Patriots were playing the Arizona Cardinals in Foxborough. Snow was on the ground and it was typical New England weather for late December. As he has done many times in his career Wes Welker scored a touchdown. As he hasn’t done many times in his career Welker then laid out in the snow-covered end zone and began making a snow angel. Welker was fined $10,000 for his heavenly gesture.
Terrell Owens Autographs a Football: Throughout his NFL career Terrell Owens has been one of the more colorful performers when it comes to touchdown celebrations. In 2002 Owens pulled a sharpie out of his sock after scoring a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. He autographed the game ball and handed it to his financial advisor. Owens was fined $20,000 for his Monday Night antics.
Randy Moss Moons Lambeau Field: Here’s a classic. 2004 playoffs, January, Lambeau Field, Vikings against Packers. After scoring a touchdown Randy Moss does a little celebration and then proceeds to stand in the end zone with his rear facing the crowd. In a “mooning” gesture, Moss pretends to pull his pants down as if he were exposing his rear to the stadium full of cheeseheads. Joe Buck immediately called Moss’ act disgusting. Moss later defended his actions by stating that he did it because Packer fans traditionally moon the opposing team’s bus when they pull into the stadium. For his mooning efforts Randy Moss was fined $10,000.
Chad Ochocinco Holds Sends the NFL a Message: This list wouldn’t be complete without Ochocinco being represented. Like Owens, Ochocinco is known to have some of the more colorful touchdown celebrations in the NFL. From putting the football with a pylon to proposing to a Bengals Cheerleader, fans never knew what to expect when it came to No. 85. Of all his celebrations the one that took it a bit too far was when he held up a sign after scoring a touchdown that read, “Dear NFL, please Don’t fine me again!” For his creativity Ochocinco was fined $10,000.
Joe Horn Makes a Phone Call: Wow…Of all the celebrations on this list this one takes the cake. Not only did it involve the most pre-staging but it also received the heftiest fine. In 2003 against the New York Giants Horn scored his second of what would become a four touchdown night and went to the upright of the goal post and pulled out a cell phone he had stashed from the padding. He then made a call to his kids. We’ve all heard of roaming charges but that had to be the most expensive phone call ever made as Horn was fined $30,000 dollars for dialing up the digits.

Randy Moss Acts Like a Child: NFL Teams Should Treat Him Like One
Its time to put Randy Moss in time-out, sit him in the corner, or even count to three because Mr. Moss is a horrible role model for our youth.
When speaking of Randy Moss the first thing that comes to mind is “a waste” or “what could have been.” All that talent and he could have been one of the best receivers of all time, but instead due to his childish antics he sits on the sidelines begging to come back to the team he left already once.
Last season Moss made news with his aggravation on the New England Patriots which would lead to his trade to the Minnesota Vikings. In just one month the Vikings waived Moss and he fell to the Tennessee Titans on waivers.
Randy Moss, went through waivers and any team had a chance to grab him in order from the worst record (Buffalo) to the best record (New England) but he fell to 22nd where he was claimed by the Tennessee Titans. The Titans’ also claimed his remaining 3.88 million dollar contract.
While the Vikings look like the morons out of all of this and the Titans had nothing to lose why should anyone take a chance on Randy Moss at this point in his career and with the childish antics he brings to each organization.
It seems like Moss is the NFL’s version of the NBA’s Allen Iverson and maybe there is a stint in the Canadian league upcoming.
There have been noticeable times during both Patriots, Vikings, and Titans games where Moss has quit on plays and noticeably has not given one-hundred percent, why does anyone want that on their team? What makes them think it will be any different?
By signing someone of that nature an organization is only impeding their chances of winning as someone who is not giving one-hundred percent can easily rub off to other players.
Not only has he shown little effort during games but afterward he trashed his teams strategy against the New England Patriots. It’s only a matter of time until someone puts a mic in front of Moss and he blows up again.
Despite if Moss agrees or not with the strategy he owes it to which ever team that signs his check to work hard and give his all, it’s not like Moss is making $6.50.
