John Elway The Drive

NFL rewind: John Elway leads the Broncos on ‘The Drive’

From the time we were young many of us have fantasized about leading our team to a big victory when the odds are against us and hope is all but lost.  Whether it’s a three-point buzzer beater, a homerun in the bottom of the 9th, or the game winning touchdown as time expires, these vivid images have been relived over and over on empty fields and basketball courts as solo conductors orchestrate the perfect symphony play after play.

John Elway Peyton Manning

John Elway played his only card

General manager of the Denver Broncos, John Elway, played the only card he had.

The Broncos are a religion unlike any other in Denver, and Elway knew he couldn’t run Tim Tebow out-of-town without a damn good excuse. Reputations are at stake here, especially Elway’s. He couldn’t risk his own legacy and permanent fixture as the most beloved sports figure ever in Colorado by dumping a fluke quarterback he never wanted, unless he dumped the fluke quarterback he never wanted for Peyton Manning

Broncos Columnist Wants Denver to Think Manning

John Elway Peyton Manning 300x240 Broncos Columnist Wants Denver to Think ManningEvery team in the league except the two in the Super Bowl have thought about how Peyton Manning could fit into their plans but Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post says a healthy Manning could be just the tonic to make the Denver Broncos championship-ready.

Kiszla says that, barring marked improvement from Tim Tebow as a passer in the off-season, Denver can’t count on its young left-hander to deliver the necessary goods in today’s pass-happy NFL.

Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts and Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos have both had their share of the limelight this season, but for different reasons.

Injury, speculation and reorganization have led to many wondering what will happen to future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. While, Tebow created “Tebow-Mania” and in John Elway’s mind, Tim Tebow might not be the long-term starter he is stuck because after-all; it was Tebow that helped the Broncos revive a season and even get an unexpected win in the playoffs.

Elway has been hesitant on stating Tebow will be the starter for the 2012 season, but with all signs pointing to Peyton Manning being available, does it give John Elway the out he is searching for?

He’s stuck and not many would want to be in his position. John Elway knows talent and knows what it takes to succeed as a quarterback. Tebow has the competitive nature, is hard-working and even owns the star quality. What he is missing is the general ability to play quarterback.

The fans spoke and they wanted Tim Tebow. Elway gave them what they wanted and at the same time it was exactly what he wanted for the organization. A spark and a playoff berth.

Now that Tebow-Mania has taken over Elway is forced to keep Tebow and let him compete for the starting job.

Can anyone imagine the heat he would take if he didn’t start Tebow next season?

What if Peyton Manning was available and able to take the heat off Elway and Tim Tebow? After all, no one in their right mind would start Tebow over Peyton Manning?

The Broncos wouldn’t need to release Tebow and could still send him in to run every now and then, but Denver would give Peyton something he has never had…defense.

Taking it a step further signing free agent Reggie Wayne to Denver’s young receiver class would add familiarity and instantly the Broncos become a legitimate force.

Clutch… ice in the veins… relentless…  These are phrases often used to describe NFL quarterbacks who perform best under pressure.  Regular season glory is good; just ask Dan Marino.  But if you ever want to truly be considered an elite NFL quarterback you have to perform when it counts the most and that’s in the postseason.  This is a list of guys who got it done in January.  Here are the Top 5 NFL Playoff quarterbacks.

Denver Broncos Game Plan Evolves Weekly

Tebow11 300x225 Denver Broncos Game Plan Evolves WeeklyThe (7-5) Denver Broncos are proving there is no such thing as a consistent game plan as their offense and defense are “up in the air” each week. Based on their opponents and suited to fit quarterback Tim Tebow, even the first half does not represent the second.

While it may seem normal to game plan according to each individual team what we are witnessing on this Denver team is a complete change. No one knows what is coming next and because of that it is revolutionizing the NFL game.

In their game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Tebow had two completed passes for 69 yards. The New York Jets game proved the Broncos have a few trick plays that won them the game. Against the Minnesota Vikings, the Broncos offense stepped up. Completing 10 out of 15 passes for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns, Tebow had his best passing game all season.

No consistency in the offense means the defense must come alive to support the unknown.

Even John Elway gave Tim Tebow his stamp of approval during his weekly “Elway Live” show saying that “I’m very happy with (his progress)… Over the seven games he’s started, we’ve won six of those and we’ve won in a lot of different ways.”

This weekend’s game against the Chicago Bears will bring yet another game plan. Without Jay Cutler and Matt Forte, Caleb Hanie is in charge of the offense. With two losses to the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs, Hanie is coming back to his college town and looking for a win.

What will be in store for the Bears will be something only the Denver Broncos know.

Tim Tebow

Fans already chanting Tebow, why?

The mountain rain and a 63-yard field goal (64-yard according to the Oakland Raiders) by Sebastian Janijowski gave the Raiders the edge over the Denver Broncos on the second game of Monday Night Football.

The Denver Broncos’ rookie class showed off their skills as top draft pick LB – Von Miller seemed to be everywhere on the defensive field and fellow rookie Rahim Moore, a strong safety recovered a fumble.

Champ Bailey was playing nickleback for the first time and obviously struggled with his footing as a few did that rainy night, but by the fourth quarter the fans at Sports Authority Field at Mile High blamed QB – Kyle Orton for the loss.
