Eagles franchise DeSean Jackson: DeSean a perfect fit in San Diego
The Philadelphia Eagles have placed the Franchise Tag on Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson. This will make Jackson an Eagle for at least one more season at the cost of $9.4 million on the Franchise Tag. The Eagles have come out and said that they will be listening to offers for him but also intend on trying to get a long-term contract in place for Jackson. “We want DeSean to be an Eagle for the long haul and this is a step to accomplish that” said General Manager Howie Roseman. Now the question becomes, will DeSean improve his attitude and want to remain in Philly or will he continue to be a disgruntled receiver and force his way out of Philly. Looking around the league there are plenty of teams in the NFL who most certainly could use Jackson, and there is one team in particular who I think should trade for Jackson, the San Diego Chargers.
5 NFL Teams that Could use DeSean Jackson
2011 was the final season of DeSean Jackson’s rookie contract. It paid him $600,000 dollars. To a struggling writer that’s a pot of gold but to an NFL receiver it’s chump change. Jackson held out at the start of the season in hopes of a new contract. When the Eagles wouldn’t budge he eventually reported only to have his second consecutive season of declining numbers. In 2009, Jackson caught nine touchdown passes. In two seasons since he has combined for only 10 with six in 2010 and four in 2011. Because of this decline Jackson’s estimation of his value differs significantly from that of the Eagles. If a contract can’t be negotiated between the two parties DeSean Jackson will become a prized free agent in 2012. Here are five teams that could use his services.
Chicago Bears: The Bears desperately need help at the receiver position. The Roy Williams – Sam Hurd experiment in 2011 was an epic failure. Johnny Knox and Devin Hester are explosive but are complimentary receivers at best. By far the best receiver on the Bears’ roster is Earl Bennett. Quarterback Jay Cutler and Bennett have exceptional chemistry and productivity on the field. That would only be enhanced with a threat like Jackson added to the mix. If the Eagles let him walk, the Bears should take a hard look at him.
San Francisco 49ers: As much as the 49ers accomplished as a team this season they have a glaring deficiency of offensive talent at the wide receiver position. Coming into 2011 the Niners hoped that Braylon Edwards could boost their receiving corps but after missing most of the year with an injury, the 49ers released him. Michael Crabtree is a solid receiver and Vernon Davis can be a beast of a tight end as he proved during the playoffs. If the 49ers could land Jackson they would have a trio of offensive threats in the passing game that would give opposing defensive coordinators nightmares.
New England Patriots: This is a team that makes a lot of sense. As good as the Patriots are, they are missing a vertical threat in the passing game and that’s right up DeSean Jackson’s alley. Additionally the Patriots have a knack taking troubled talent from other teams and getting the most out of them. In 2011 New England brought in Chad Ochocinco in hopes of him becoming their down field playmaker but after not being able to learn the playbook and struggling in limited appearances it appears that Ochocinco might need a new home in 2012. If the Patriots can sign Jackson image the offense; Tom Brady, Wes Welker, DeSean Jackson, Aaron Hernandez, and Rob Gronkowski. Talk about intimidating.
Indianapolis Colts: What a better way to welcome Andrew Luck to the NFL than to bring in DeSean Jackson. The Colts franchise is in disarray right now. Peyton Manning and Jim Irsay are going back and forth, the future status of several key veterans to include Reggie Wayne and Manning remains in doubt, and no matter how good Luck is he can’t get it done alone. What a great way to revitalize a fan base after a 2-14 season that was followed by internal turmoil.
Denver Broncos: John Elway could put his money where his mouth is by bringing in Jackson. Earlier this month Elway stated that the Broncos were going to put pieces around Tim Tebow to give him the best chance to win. Signing Jackson would be a step in that direction. Regardless of whether or not Tebow remains the future for the Broncos, having Jackson on your roster would make the QB position for the all the more enticing for potential signees.

2012 NFL Free Agency: 10 WR’s That Could Make a Difference
As we inch closer to NFL free agency teams will now decide what to do with some of their top players and difference makers. There are a number of high-caliber wide receivers that could land with new teams including DeSean Jackson, Wes Welker and Stevie Johnson but also some other veteran names such as Reggie Wayne, Vincent Jackson and Plaxico Burress that could search for new teams. Here are the top 10 choices for wide receiver in 2012 free agency.
1. DeSean Jackson (Philadelphia Eagles)
Is DeSean Jackson more trouble than he is worth? The jury still may be out but after causing a fiasco with the Eagles last season it could be the end of the road in Philly. The problem for the Eagles is that they don’t have anyone else to take his place. For a number of years the Eagles struggled at the WR position and now that they finally have someone worth something are they going to turn around and let that go? Jackson’s vertical ability has a great impact on the way defenses approach the Eagles’ offense and Michael Vick. Losing him would do more damage than just paying him the high salary he demands.
2. Wes Welker (New England Patriots)
If your name is not Tom Brady then chances of you obtaining a lucrative contract from the Patriots is very unlikely. Welker continues to set NFL records and could end his career with the Brady-led Patriots. At least that would be the smart thing to do. Previously with the Miami Dolphins Welker never produced the type of offense he does now. Is it the person throwing him the ball, or is it the system that he fits in. Welker is virtually impossible to cover out of the slot due to his quickness, intelligence, and hands. It would be hard to imagine that Welker looked elsewhere and Brady didn’t push for him to come back.
3. Stevie Johnson (Buffalo Bills)
Ryan Fitzpatrick has all but lifted up his shirt asking for Stevie Johnson to come back to the Bills but head coach Chan Gailey named a few conditions if he is to come back. There is no doubt he has talent but his actions, while funny, are hurting his team. The Bills need a flamboyant and exciting player. It is something they have not had in a good amount of time, but there is point in time to do it and Stevie doesn’t know that.
4. Dwayne Bowe (Kansas City Chiefs)
Dwayne Bow is a number one receiver that a team like the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams and Denver Broncos could use. Let’s not forget so can the Chiefs. His large stature, catching radius and work around the goal line make him a complete mismatch. He has also shown the propensity to make acrobatic catches on the fade and back shoulder passes.
5. Vincent Jackson (San Diego Chargers)
The Chargers have avoided a long-term extension with Jackson and even let him hold out with no response. Philip Rivers needs a go-to receiver and right now Jackson is the best option. Jackson turns 29 this winter and could be slapped with the franchise tag. Selected to only one Pro-Bowl during his career he also finished in the top fifteen and top ten in the NFL for receiving yards during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. After career-low numbers in 2010 he bounced back in 2011 with 1,106 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
6. Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts)
There has been talk of Reggie thinking this may be his last season in Indy, but odds are that also lies if Peyton is coming back. Hard to imagine the Colts would leave Manning without his number one target. One of the most interesting quotes from Wayne, is that he feels younger due to the lack of quarterback for the Colts. In fact, he thinks he bought himself a few more years. Reggie Wayne put on his hard hat for 11 seasons for the Colts, but the packed boxes in the locker room indicate he’s moving on.
7. Marques Colston (New Orleans Saints)
When healthy Colston is a nightmare match-up for a corner, but the Saints have proved they can win without him. Picking up Colston could be a risk with his injury history. In his sixth NFL Season in four of his. This is Colston’s sixth NFL season. In five of those years he’s gone over 1,000 yards. Teammate Roman Harper stated, “He doesn’t draw a lot of attention to himself; he goes out there and he makes the hard catches. Goes across the middle, takes the hard hits, and doesn’t complain. He makes plays for us, and he doesn’t ever cause trouble. It’s simple: If you get more players like Colston, you have a great team.”
8. Pierre Garcon (Indianapolis Colts)
Drafted in the 6th round in the 2008 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts, Garcon has shown flashes of brilliance but could lack the overall number one ability. Targeted a team high 134 times in 2011 Garcon fell just short of reaching 1,000 yards.
9. Brandon Lloyd (St. Louis Rams)
Lloyd is a bit of a mystery playing for five different teams in his brief NFL career, but drafted in 2003 and traded by the Denver Broncos to the St. Louis Rams expectations were high. Lloyd was one of the few bright surprises for the Rams this season finishing with 51 receptions for 683 yards and five touchdowns since coming over from the Broncos in Week 5. What makes Lloyd’s numbers even more impressive is that starting QB Sam Bradford was injured for a large part of that 11 game stretch.
10. Plaxico Burress (New York Jets)
Burress only secured 45 of 95 targets this year, gaining 612 yards on those receptions. His eight touchdowns bailed his season out somewhat, but it’s hard to expect a repeat of that next year, given that he turns 35 in August. Someone will still take a chance on the veteran due to his size and red zone threat.

The Chicago Bears Future: Could it Include DeSean Jackson?
Could anyone have predicted that the Chicago Bears would finish 2011 with an 8-8 record and on the outside looking in of the NFL playoffs? Yep. I did. The Bears came into the season with question marks on the offensive line and at wide receiver. Oddly enough, those were some of the same questions that plagued them throughout 2010 and little was done in the abbreviated off-season to correct them.
Chicago will pick 19th in the upcoming NFL draft. Mock drafts are all over the place with the Bears right now. Some have them taking Luke Kuechly, LB out of Boston College. The logic behind this would be to bring in an eventual successor to Brian Urlacher, especially given the way his season ended. Another mock has the Bears taking Kendall Wright, WR out of Baylor. As a senior, Wright was the primary target for Heisman winner Robert Griffin III as he caught 108 passes for over 1600 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Wright would immediately bolster Chicago’s pedestrian receiving corps.
Both Kuechly and Wright would be solid picks but if the Bears learned anything this past season it’s that they’ve become overly dependent on quarterback Jay Cutler. He is the Bears’ franchise and as the saying goes, “you need to protect the franchise.” The past two seasons for Chicago have ended with an injured Jay Cutler. Keeping him on the field and upright must be a top priority for the Bears coaching staff and front office in 2012. Getting back 2011 first round draft pick offensive tackle Gabe Carimi will help, but adding another key piece to that offensive line via the draft would be huge. So expect the Bears to use their first round pick on an offensive lineman.
So how do the Bears fix the issue at receiver? The answer is free agency and there is a plethora of talent coming available at that position in 2012. For starters both Roy Williams and Earl Bennett are free agent receivers for the Bears. Where the Bears should declare the Roy Williams experiment an epic failure and part ways with the journeyman, Earl Bennett without a doubt should be retained. Bennett is one of Cutler’s favorite targets and is a nice complimentary No 2. Now to find a No. 1.
DeSean Jackson is one of the more attractive free agent wide receivers out there. Jackson is a freakish talent who is capable of stretching the field and making explosive plays. At 5’10, 175 lbs, what Jackson lacks in stature, he more than makes up for in big play ability. The general consensus is that Jackson had a down season in 2011 but his 58 receptions and 961 receiving yards were just slight of his career averages. The biggest questions with Jackson are of course those regarding his character. The 2011 season started with Jackson holding out for a new contract and things never really seemed right with him after that. He dropped passes, missed team meetings for which he was suspended for a game, and even appeared to quit on his team at times. The fact of the matter remains that if the Eagles decide not to use their franchise tag on Jackson or re-sign him he is going to land somewhere. Why not make that somewhere Chicago?
If the Eagles don’t bring Jackson back the Bears need to take a hard look at bringing him in. Imagine the explosive potential of an offense with DeSean Jackson and Devin Hester. That type of fire power is exactly what the Bears need to field each and every Sunday in order to keep pace with the offensive track meet that the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers bring to the NFC North.
We’ll have to wait and see whether or not it actually happens but without a doubt the Bears need offensive playmakers to compliment Cutler, and Jackson may be the perfect answer. Let’s keep our finger crossed but until then…Bear Down!

DeSean Jackson Gives Up On Eagles
During a contract year you expect certain things out of players. Usually they are willing to go above and beyond in order to show the team, or teams that may be interested, what they are made of. So much for that thinking when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles’ DeSean Jackson. His contract year has been full of well…
The season continues to worsen for Jackson who after missing team meetings, dropping passes and shying away from hits over the middle has fans in Philly irate over the receivers play.
It was a dismal night for the Eagles as Vince Young threw four interceptions and the “Dream Team” is now nothing but a distant memory.
Jackson’s shining moment will be when he took a deep route and didn’t even look back to help his quarterback.
Later, cameras showed Young trying to talk to Jackson on the bench while Jackson stared off in the distance.
NFL Network’s Alex Flanagan mentioned how Jackson has sat by himself all night not talking with anyone.
DeSean Jackson is not only losing fans he is losing money by the game. Who wants to sign a player that does nothing but give up?

DeSean Jackson Apologizes to Eagles’ Team
D
eSean Jackson may be caught in the middle of a contract dispute with the Philadelphia Eagles organization but that does not give him the right to give up on his teammates and leave his star quarterback, Michael Vick, down two receivers.
According to the Philadelphia Eagles team website Jackson apologized during the team meeting stating, “I addressed my teammates as a professional and as a man today at our meeting and told them I’m going to go out and put it all on the line and continue to do what I need to do for the rest of the year.”
A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Sunday that Jackson overslept, causing him to miss a team meeting which would lead to his suspension from the Arizona Cardinals game. On Monday, Jackson wouldn’t comment on why he missed the meeting.
We have all been there before…No one wants to get up to a job they dislike and it’s evident that Jackson dislikes this Eagles team and has become nothing but a problem in the Eagles locker room.
Jackson is in the final year of his rookie contract and held out for 11 days during training camp. While he has not come out publicly about his dispute actions speak much louder than words.
“Everybody knows the situation, knows the case, as a professional, as a man you just have to handle things. I can admit to some things probably that I’ve done that I need to do better,” he said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirier.
On Sunday, Jackson’s spokesman told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio that the receiver’s punishment was harsher than it needed to be.
Is an apology enough to pull this team back together when they continue to get beat down each week?
