Thumbs up: Bears’ Cutler ready to lead new look offense

Chicago Bears franchise quarterback, Jay Cutler, is literally all thumbs when it comes to leading his significantly upgraded offense in 2012.  Cutler had season ending surgery after injuring his right thumb in Week 11 last year but says it is all better and is ready to return.

According to NFL.com Cutler had this to say on Monday during a diabetes awareness event at Perspectives Charter School Calumet Campus when asked about his previously injured thumb.

“It’s fine,” I really didn’t throw a lot in the offseason, rehabbed a little bit and came back and felt good.”

Plaxico Burress

Should the Bears sign Plaxico Burress?

The Chicago Bears have made some tremendous upgrades at the WR position this offseason with the additions of Brandon Marshall and rookie Alshon Jefferey.  When combined with returning receivers Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox and Devin Hester the Bears have a formidable receiving corps that should allow them to keep pace in the pass happy NFC North.   But do they need more and if so should the Bears sign free agent Plaxico Burress?

Mike Tice

Can Mike Tice bring some familiar magic to the Bears offense?

The Chicago Bears and former offensive coordinator Mike Martz departed ways at the end of the 2011 regular season and in 2012 Mike Tice will take over the reins.  Can he recapture the offensive magic from his Minnesota days?

Say what you will about the somewhat troubled tenure of Mike Tice as the Vikings‘ head coach, but he and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan had a three-year run of offensive dominance. In 2002, the Vikings led the NFL in rushing, and by 2003, they led the league in total offense. They stayed equally hot in 2004, riding their fourth-ranked offense into the playoffs and then embarrassing Brett Favre in the Wild Card to the tune of 31-17. While we don’t have Favre to kick around any more, nothing would please Bears fans more than Mike Tice once again taking it to Green Bay. Flip below the fold to see the strange similarities between the Vikings of yore with the Bears of today. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this cruise ship!

Matt Forte

Is Matt Forte the greatest Bears running back of all-time?

Whether it was before or after you read the title if you’ve honestly believe that Matt Forte is the greatest running back in the history of the Chicago Bears then you fall in to one of two categories; foolish or naïve.  Without a doubt, Forte is one of the top backs in the modern-day NFL and a big part of the Bears current success, but Chicago has had a history fielding elite talent in their backfield.  Here are the top five Chicago Bear running backs of all-time; Matt Forte is

2012 NFL Draft: Will the Bears go guts or glory at 19?

The Chicago Bears have the 19th pick in the 2012 NFL draft and with selection day less than a week away what position they will fill is still up in the air.  When you look at the Bears needs going into the draft they should definitely go guts and take a defensive end or an offensive tackle at 19 but might t go glory and take a receiver?  Arguments can be made for either scenario.

NFC North offseason power rankings: Bears on the rise?

When considering an NFC North Power Ranking you’re comparing possibly the toughest division in the NFL.  Although no longer the champs, the Green Bay Packers are still NFC heavyweights and as long as Aaron Rodgers is slinging the ball this team will remain dangerous.  The Detroit Lions made tremendous strides a season ago.  Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are a lethal duo and will certainly cause defensive coordinators fits again in 2012.  Where the Minnesota Vikings are still a few years away from catching back up the their division rivals the Chicago Bears were the best team in football during about a five game stretch last season before Jay Cutler was injured.  With key acquisitions made this offseason are the Bears on the rise in the NFC North?  Based on how these teams finished in 2011 and their key player movements during the offseason, here are your NFC North power rankings.

Bush whacked: Forte not happy with Bears latest signing

If the 2012 regular season is a high stakes poker game the Chicago Bears are definitely stacking the deck in hopes of winning it all.  On Thursday the Bears continued their commitment to going all-in by signing free agent running back Michael Bush to a four-year contract worth $14 million with $7 million of it being guaranteed.  Bush was the latest offensive acquisition for the team as previously the Bears had traded for WR Brandon Marshall as well as brought in free agent QB Jason Campbell to back up the often injured Jay Cutler.  Bush played four seasons with the Oakland Raiders where he accumulated 2,642 yards and 21 touchdowns.  At 6-1, 245 lbs, Bush is a bruising back with speed and should be a nice complimentary piece in the Bears backfield alongside Matt Forte.  Despite the fact that the move bolsters the Chicago roster and therefore will help the Bears compete in arguably the most competitive division in the NFL, Forte was not impressed with the move.  But given his current contract situation, can you really blame him?

Chicago Bears Super Bowl Shuffle

NFL rewind: Chicago Bears Super Bowl shuffle

Do you remember 1985?  President Ronald Reagan was sworn in for his second term, the Food and Drug Administration approved a blood test for AIDS.  As a part of the 99th anniversary of Coca Cola, New Coke is released and subsequently flops giving way to Coke Classic, the original formula.  The Breakfast Club and The Color Purple debuted in theaters. We Are The World was recorded by USA for Africa and the Chicago Bears released the Super Bowl Shuffle in the midst of a 15-1 regular season record in route to their first and only Super Bowl title to date.

Lovie Smith

Bears free agent additions could spell doom for Lovie Smith

The Chicago Bears have come out with a roar during the early stages of 2012 NFL Free Agency.  After the end of the 2011 regular season the Bears had several questions to answer; so far,  so good in the Windy City, but could it spell doom for Lovie Smith?

Everyone knew that the Bears needed a receiver going in to the offseason.  For quite a while I’ve been screaming that a commitment to Jay Cutler was a commitment to the passing game.  Why would you buy a Mercedes and put water in the gas tank? It just wouldn’t make sense.  But that’s exactly what the Bears were doing when they signed Cutler and surrounded him with mediocre receivers.  Now, by trading for Brandon Marshall, the Bears have finally given Cutler the game breaking receiver he’s needed for the last three seasons.

Jay Cutler

Jay Cutler: Player profile

Life is like a roller coaster, experiencing the ups and downs until eventually you get off the ride, but for quarterback Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears his roller coaster has loops and corkscrews.

Peyton Hillis

4 NFL teams that should pursue Peyton Hillis

When you talk about tough physical running backs you have to mention Peyton Hillis and that fact alone makes him an attractive free agent prospect for several NFL teams.

Rex Grossman Bears

Should the Bears bring Rex Grossman back to Chicago?

One of the many questions the Chicago Bears must answer this offseason is who will backup starting quarterback Jay Cutler in 2012.  The past two years, Cutler’s seasons have ended prematurely as he watched from the sideline with an injury.  Both times Cutler was replaced by Bears backup quarterback Caleb Hanie and both times Chicago fell short.  The first time cost the Bears a trip to the Super Bowl and the second a postseason berth.  The name Donovan McNabb has been bounced around as a possible quarterback that could back Cutler up in 2012.  The move makes sense as McNabb is from Chicago and in the twilight of his career.  But if McNabb isn’t yet willing to accept a backup role might Rex Grossman be coming back to Chicago.
