NFL Running Backs who should take their talents elsewhere
These four NFL running backs have wasted away or will waste away their careers if they stay with their current NFL teams. Their teams have failed to put the right kind of talent around them to bring them what NFL players want the most… a Super Bowl ring.
1. Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings), has averaged 4.8 yards per carry and has had over 10 touchdowns every year since he has been in the NFL. He has been healthy the whole time, except for this past year which he suffered a torn ACL. The Vikings have tried to build around Peterson. The latest was the Brett Favre Project, which worked for one season and then turned into a huge circus. Peterson has given the Vikings five healthy years and now he is faced with battling back from a nasty knee injury. He deserves to win.
Ideal teams: New York Jets, New York Giants and Miami Dolphins
2. Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars), has averaged 4.6 yards per carry and has topped a 1,000 yards for three seasons. He has been in the league six years and has been healthy; no significant injuries. Jones-Drew has been the only bright spot for this franchise. They haven’t made any real attempts at building anything around him. He deserves to win.
Ideal teams: New England Patriots, New York Jets and San Diego Chargers
3. Steven Jackson (Saint Louis Rams), has averaged 4.3 yards per carry and has rushed for a 1,000 yards seven out of eight seasons. He has been pretty healthy for the most part just dealing with small injuries here and there. He has been an amazing workhorse for the Rams. Adding Sam Bradford and trying to build some sort of passing attack, with the addition of Brandon Lloyd will definitely help. Outside of that they have not shown any indications of being a consistent playoff team and have failed to build around him. He deserves to win.
Ideal teams: New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots
4. Matt Forte (Chicago Bears), has been a beast for his team. He has only been in the league four years and has surpassed 1,000 yards on two of those years. The other two seasons he has rushed for over 900 yards. Unfortunately for this young back, he was injured this past season going down with a high ankle sprain. The Bears flirt every season with the playoffs but because of their one dimension run only offense they can’t make it far. The Bears are trying to put a team together but they had a lot of people confused because they never offered Forte another contract. If the Bears fail to make major moves this offseason Forte should look at his options. He deserves to win.
Ideal teams: Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys
The ideal teams for these players are teams that could use a running back. They are also teams that build towards making runs at the playoffs year after year. All of these great backs could use a change of scenery. They are all getting way too many carries and the its starting to bear down on them. Running backs have the shortest careers in the NFL because they are guaranteed to be hit every time the run the ball. These running backs have great talents that they need to take elsewhere.
