Ryan Tannehill: New addition to Redskins QB equation
The Washington Redskins quarterback question will be solved here within the next two months and while fans of the team and league know the cast of characters, a new one has been added and that is Ryan Tannehill, the quarterback from Texas A&M who is entering the 2012 NFL Draft. Most analysts have a consensus of Andrew Luck being the first quarterback selected with Robert Griffin, III being next and that now leaves Ryan Tannehill being the next best signal caller on the board.
The rumors are circulating and at this point there is really no way to tell the exact route that Dan Snyder and Mike Shannahan will take when it comes to the quarterback situation. While Rex Grossman and John Beck are still in the mix, it just seems too obvious that the team is going to get a QB either through the draft or through free agency. There is word now that the Cleveland Browns would like to trade up from their number four posistion to go after RGIII and that would leave the Redskins at number 6 looking for a QB and the next best one would be Tannehill.
Ryan Tannehill has the size (6’4″, 225) to be a good NFL QB and most scouts have said that they believe that Tannehill could contribute immediately to a team. The thing that is going to make Tannehill enticing to NFL teams is that he started his career off as a wide reciever and then made the transistion to QB. He was actually recruited to be a QB out of high school but was switched to reciever. After an injury to the starter in his junior season, Tannehill stepped up to the plate and then went on to have a spectacular senior year, one that has draft pundits believing that he is first round material. The NFL these days like to have a versatile QB and Ryan Tannehill has certainly proved that he is one.
NFL Network’s Mike Moyock says that if Tannehill is able to impress during his Texas A&M pro day on March 3rd that he will certainly go in the first round and he is even going as far as saying to not be surprised if he has better success than Luck and Griffin. Moyock says that if the Skins fail on getting RGIII by trading up, they could trade down and have success of getting Tannehill late in the first round. Moyock says that the only thing wrong with Tannehill is that he is an anticipatory quarterback and that while he only started a limited amount of games for a first round projected quarterback, Tannehill has the tools and potential to be a very good QB in the NFL.
The word is out that Snyder and Company are looking at Ryan Tannehill as a potential candidate for the quarterback job for the Washington Redskins and with the way that he played last season it certainly could play a big factor in the NFL. Peyton Manning, RGIII, Kyle Orton, and now Ryan Tannehill. The plate is certainly full for the Redskins front office and their impending choice as to whom will be the starting QB for next year.
