Randy Moss: 5 teams that could take a chance

Randy Moss

Randy Moss was once touted as one of the greatest of all-time, but his attitude and work-ethic left much to be desired.

Now at 35 years old he has announced he is planning a comeback. “I just wanna go to a team and play some football,” Moss said on a Ustream.tv.

If Moss plans on coming back to the NFL he must give his all and dedicate himself, but what are the odds that actually continues through 16 games of an NFL season?

Moss has 954 receptions, 153 TD’s and 14,858 for his career, but could any of these five teams be interested in his services?

Philadelphia Eagles

Reports are the Eagles could place the franchise tag on DeSean Jackson. If for some insane reason that does not happen and the Eagles lose the troubled wide-out, Moss should not be considered a replacement. Not at his age. Instead of the go-to-guy, Moss could give the Eagles a solid target for Michael Vick and someone with the size Philadelphia needs. The emergence of Jeremy Maclin has helped the core of talent but why not continue to add to it? Placing Jackson or Maclin in the slot could open up more outlets for Vick to throw when under pressure.

Depending on the maturity of Randy Moss is it possible he could act as a mentor to Jackson? A humbled and more mature Moss could be a valuable asset to Andy Reid and the troubles that DeSean has caused in the locker room. Of course there is also the opposite end of the spectrum that he causes more problems than he is worth.

San Francisco 49ers

No matter the quarterback of the 49ers they have a glaring need at the wide receiver position. They tried to bring in a big-bodied receiver in Braylon Edwards but injury and lack of performance didn’t help the cause. Moss could be that big body they need.

Michael Crabtree, drafted in 2009, was supposed to become an elite NFL receiver. While he may have had a decent regular season he was no where to be found in the playoffs.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Why? Because they have nothing to lose. Jacksonville needs to shake things up a bit if they plan on staying put. Bringing in a name like Moss could put butts in the seats, something the Jaguars need badly. Much like Buffalo once took a chance on Terrell Owens. While T.O. wasn’t as productive as he usually is the experiment worked and increased jersey sales.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals desperately need a number two receiver as Larry Fitzgerald can’t do it all. Early Doucet is approaching free agency and despite struggles the second-half of the season he did a decent job in the slot. PFF.com ranked him 13th in the NFL at the slot position. Uncertainty circles the Cardinals. Especially at the quarterback position as no one knows who the starter will be. Peyton Manning has been rumored and even if it is Kevin Kolb they need another outlet. No matter the quarterback, it would help having two large targets on the edge and a speedy slot receiver in Doucet running the middle.

Chicago Bears

Even if the Bears don’t pick up Randy Moss, they better find someone for Jay Cutler to throw the ball to. Especially in a division that features Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford who are going to throw and put points up.

The Bears haven’t had a No. 1 receiver since Marcus Robinson and if they plan on competing in the NFC North they need to do much better than Roy Williams.

Williams only caught 37 passes for 507 yards and 2 touchdowns.

I’ll tell ya what, the Cleveland Browns could certainly use a guy like Randy Moss. If he just caught the football and held onto it the Browns would be better off. I would certainly take a chance with a one year deal with Randy Moss

I agree that the bears do need a big THREAT on the WR position.   Get rid of Roy “The Clown” Williams…Guy is useless anyway
