Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 NFL Draft: 4-round projections
All 32 teams are evaluating players and ensuring they are ready to draft the right player in April. For the Jacksonville Jaguars, the question becomes whether or not they bring in Tim Tebow. New General Manager David Caldwell said there was no way he would become a member of the Jaguars, but we all know money talks.
They seem to have faith in Blaine Gabbert for some unknown reason, despite the fact that Chad Henne did very well for himself and earned the right to be the starter in 2013. I don’t know why but maybe the Jaguars want to get into contention for the top quarterbacks in 2014 but it doesn’t make sense when you have a guy in Henne who can help you win games and give fans a winning team. I don’t give them a quarterback here since they believe in Gabbert and give him some help around him to make the team better for the true franchise quarterback in 2014.
Round 1, Pick 2: Star Lotulelei NT Utah: Terrance Knighton is a free agent and will need to be replaced. He was replaced by C.J. Mosley who an ok starter but isn’t anywhere near the talent of Star. Star will be a major upgrade on the Jaguars defensive line that needs help. Considering how well Chad Henne did last year, improving the defense is a must as they need to build around Chad Henne going forward.
Round 2, Pick 33: Arthur Brown LB Kansas State: Daryl Smith is a free agent and will be coming off a groin injury at 31 years old. The Jags may have to move on and Brown is a perfect fit for the Jaguars defense. I suspect Gus Bradley to mold the Jaguars similar to the Seahawks and if so, don’t be surprised to see the Jags go defensively heavy.
Round 3, Pick 69: Barrett Jones C/G Alabama: Brad Meester is a free agent and is 36 years old. It’s time the Jags look elsewhere for the center position. Barrett Jones falls due to other centers passing him as of late. This is still going to be a solid pick up as Jones will not only improve the pass protection, but also the run game with Maurice Jones-Drew.
Round 4, Pick 100: Tyrann Mathieu CB LSU: If there is one team willing to take a chance on him, I say it will be the Jaguars. Corner is a top need and once again the Seattle influence will influence this pick. Mathieu will fall but some team will get an amazing player who will give offenses fits all day long.
