Thumbs up: Bears’ Cutler ready to lead new look offense
Chicago Bears franchise quarterback, Jay Cutler, is literally all thumbs when it comes to leading his significantly upgraded offense in 2012. Cutler had season ending surgery after injuring his right thumb in Week 11 last year but says it is all better and is ready to return.
According to NFL.com Cutler had this to say on Monday during a diabetes awareness event at Perspectives Charter School Calumet Campus when asked about his previously injured thumb.
“It’s fine,” I really didn’t throw a lot in the offseason, rehabbed a little bit and came back and felt good.”
Should the Bears sign Plaxico Burress?
The Chicago Bears have made some tremendous upgrades at the WR position this offseason with the additions of Brandon Marshall and rookie Alshon Jefferey. When combined with returning receivers Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox and Devin Hester the Bears have a formidable receiving corps that should allow them to keep pace in the pass happy NFC North. But do they need more and if so should the Bears sign free agent Plaxico Burress?
Packers kick off rookie minicamp
Much to the relief of Green Bay Packer fans everywhere, GM Ted Thompson’s main focus during the draft was improving the defense. Although the players drafted were not ones who’s names we had been hearing for the past few months, Thompson gathered a talented group of individuals that were flying slightly under the radar. Now that the rookie camp has commenced, everyone’s eye will be on filling those roster spots for the upcoming season.
When Green Bay named their first pick in the draft, even TE Jermichael Finley wondered who he was (no worries, you were not alone). DE from USC, Nick Perry was named USC’s Defensive Lineman of the year after leading the Pac-12 in sacks for the 2011 season. Although Perry prefers the DE position, he will be competing for the starting spot to play opposite Clay Matthews as a linebacker.
Can Mike Tice bring some familiar magic to the Bears offense?
The Chicago Bears and former offensive coordinator Mike Martz departed ways at the end of the 2011 regular season and in 2012 Mike Tice will take over the reins. Can he recapture the offensive magic from his Minnesota days?
Say what you will about the somewhat troubled tenure of Mike Tice as the Vikings‘ head coach, but he and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan had a three-year run of offensive dominance. In 2002, the Vikings led the NFL in rushing, and by 2003, they led the league in total offense. They stayed equally hot in 2004, riding their fourth-ranked offense into the playoffs and then embarrassing Brett Favre in the Wild Card to the tune of 31-17. While we don’t have Favre to kick around any more, nothing would please Bears fans more than Mike Tice once again taking it to Green Bay. Flip below the fold to see the strange similarities between the Vikings of yore with the Bears of today. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this cruise ship!
Is Matt Forte the greatest Bears running back of all-time?
Whether it was before or after you read the title if you’ve honestly believe that Matt Forte is the greatest running back in the history of the Chicago Bears then you fall in to one of two categories; foolish or naïve. Without a doubt, Forte is one of the top backs in the modern-day NFL and a big part of the Bears current success, but Chicago has had a history fielding elite talent in their backfield. Here are the top five Chicago Bear running backs of all-time; Matt Forte is
2012 NFL Draft: Grading the first round
1. Indianapolis Colts – Andrew Luck – QB, Stanford
Buffalo is still trying to replace Jim Kelly, Miami is still trying to replace Dan Marino, Cleveland has needed a Quarterback forever, yet somehow the Colts get fortunate enough to go from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck without the down time that teams usually go through after losing a Hall of Fame Quarterback. Grade: A+
2. Washington Redskins – Robert Griffin III – QB, Baylor
The Redskins traded their second-round pick and three first-round picks (2012, 2013 and 2014) to move up four spots. Many may think that maybe too much but it’s not when your in a quarterback driven league. The Redskins will be a playoff contender thanks to this move and will surprise people this season because of it, the Quarterback carousel in Washington is over and now the challenge becomes, can Griffin survive the NFC East? Grade: A+
2012 NFL draft: Packers could find help by selecting Curry
The Green Bay Packers need help across from Clay Matthews and help could be on the way by selecting DE/OLB, Vinny Curry.
Vinny Curry of the Marshall Thundering Herd has shown flashes of first-round potential as a three-year starter and should be selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft.
His athleticism and size at 6’4 make him a strong commodity for NFL teams but he could need some time to develop his skills as a 3-4 linebacker.
2012 NFL Draft: Will the Bears go guts or glory at 19?
The Chicago Bears have the 19th pick in the 2012 NFL draft and with selection day less than a week away what position they will fill is still up in the air. When you look at the Bears needs going into the draft they should definitely go guts and take a defensive end or an offensive tackle at 19 but might t go glory and take a receiver? Arguments can be made for either scenario.
Yes or No: McNabb says he’s a Hall of Famer, but is he?
Donovan McNabb has played in five NFC Championship games with a Super Bowl appearance, voted to six Pro Bowls, has thrown for 37,276 yards, 234 touchdowns, 117 interceptions, and has career passer rating of 85.6 but he’s currently unemployed. If McNabb never plays another down of football in the NFL , is he a Hall of Famer? According to him, he is.
Packers honor the uniform, pass on Nike designs
As Nike unveiled the new 2012 uniforms, a few of them appeared to be fairly unchanged. It’s not too surprising that the Green Bay Packers were the first of five teams to pass on Nike’s new designs. Their uniforms are rooted in their history and it would sadden the Packer’s allegiant fans to see anything but the simple, classic green and gold on Labeau Field.
2012 NFL Draft: 5 teams who should trade with Vikings
The 2012 NFL Draft is just 16 days away and as we know the top two picks, what we don’t know is how the rest of the draft will shakeout. Right now it seems most around the NFL have a set order in how the draft is going to play out within the first several picks, but the Minnesota Vikings may look to throw a wrench into things as they are shopping the third overall pick.
Breaking: Sanchez wants out, Vikings interested?
The Jets continue to be the center of pre draft talk. They have already traded for Tim Tebow, and it was just a matter of time before Mark Sanchez requested a trade.
