Football, a game of violence
Football is a very violent game that many of us love to play and love to watch. You have to have a strong will to play the game. Football is not a game for the weak of heart, evidenced by Junior Seau the former San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots linebacker. Injuries are a big part of the game. The injuries come along with the violence. Some folks play the game and never have a problem either physically or mentally. Then there are some players that have retired because of shots taken while playing, concussions, necks, knees, ankles, and some have even been paralyzed.
NFL take two: What happens when the cheering stops?
I am no longer an NFL player, now what do I do with my life? No more practices, no more sitting on the training table nursing this injury or that injury. No more sitting in the film room watching film of this week’s opponent. Running out of the tunnels to thousands of cheering fans is no more. I only hear the cheers in my head. There are those former players that handle it well, and then there are the ones that do not handle being “Normal” after their careers in the limelight are no more.
Junior Seau, goodbye “Buddy”
Today the world found out the tragic news that the beloved and respected man known as Junior Seau was found dead at the age of 43.
Uncharacteristic for a linebacker in the NFL, it seems like everyone enjoyed Seau and the way he played. Not only his teammates and opponents, but the fans also seemed to migrate towards him. Teammates in Miami, New England, and San Diego all remember him as a great player, leader, and friend.
Most importantly, he was a ground breaker for young men of Polynesian decent. He came from a home where he and his siblings literally slept on the floor of a one car garage, to becoming one of the most talented athletes to ever come out of the San Diego area. Seau’s accomplishments at Oceanside High School, California, in football, basketball, and track earned him a scholarship to play football for the prestigious University of Southern California. After a rough start to his career at USC due to academic inadequacies, he went on to don the number 55 jersey for the Trojans (a jersey that is worn by a player considered to be a future NFL star) and become a first round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers in 1990. Since his time at USC, there have been many great players of Polynesian descent to leave their mark at the university in the wake of Seau’s greatness. Names like Troy Polamalu, Rey Maualuga, and Lofa Tatupu to name a few have all gone on to vault the program to greatness en route to promising NFL careers.
2012 NFL draft: Chargers need a player like Courtney Upshaw
After doing nothing the previous year, the San Diego Chargers upgraded the linebacker core by adding Jarret Johnson but are still missing a pass rushing specialist.
Alabama linebacker, Courtney Upshaw, may be the player they are searching for.
Upshaw was highly scouted as a high school prep star and now once again by the 2012 NFL Draft.
3 NFL teams guarenteed to miss the 2012 playoffs
The ‘win now’ philosophy is not at all new, and with teams like the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions seemingly getting things together, there has to be room made towards the top of the list of championship contenders. There may be a changing of the guard as soon as the upcoming season. While the championship hopes of some teams are just beginning to bloom, there are a few windows that are most certainly closing.
Spanos defends Jackson’s bolt from Chargers
As if it wasn’t bad enough that the San Diego Chargers lost two key offensive free agents this offseason, now team president Dean Spanos is defending the action or rather the lack thereof by the team. According to Chargers.com Spanos understands the pain and frustrations of the many Chargers fans who are upset with the departure of WR Vincent Jackson and RB Mike Tolbert but had this to say in defense of the moves.
Why the Chargers are again primed for mediocrity in 2012
If the 2012 free agency period thus far is any indication as to the upcoming season for the San Diego Chargers then Bolt fans can bank on another disappointing year. Following the Chargers 2011 season finale victory against the Oakland Raiders, amidst swirling speculation that head coach Norv Turner would be fired, quarterback Philip Rivers used the media in a postgame interview to go to bat for his coach before taking his message directly to San Diego owner Dean Spanos. It was then that the momentum towards mediocrity in 2012 began.

My Divisional Mock Draft breakdown continues today with the AFC West and will conclude on Friday with the NFC West.
Eagles franchise DeSean Jackson: DeSean a perfect fit in San Diego
The Philadelphia Eagles have placed the Franchise Tag on Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson. This will make Jackson an Eagle for at least one more season at the cost of $9.4 million on the Franchise Tag. The Eagles have come out and said that they will be listening to offers for him but also intend on trying to get a long-term contract in place for Jackson. “We want DeSean to be an Eagle for the long haul and this is a step to accomplish that” said General Manager Howie Roseman. Now the question becomes, will DeSean improve his attitude and want to remain in Philly or will he continue to be a disgruntled receiver and force his way out of Philly. Looking around the league there are plenty of teams in the NFL who most certainly could use Jackson, and there is one team in particular who I think should trade for Jackson, the San Diego Chargers.
3 Free Agents who could help Chargers in 2012
For several years now the San Diego Chargers have been perennial underachievers. Despite possessing some of the best talent on both sides of the football the Chargers have missed the playoffs the last two seasons finishing a disappointing 9-7 and 8-8 in 2010 and 11 respectively. Fans expectations after a disappointing 2011 were that head coach Norv Turner and General Manager A.J. Smith would be let go. To the surprise of many they were retained and unfortunately it sets up low expectations for the 2012 season. If the Chargers want to make any noise in 2012 they are going to have to add some playmakers via free agency and the draft. Here are three free agents who could help the Chargers in 2012.
