Bengals were the winners of the Palmer trade
Mike Brown worked one of the best deals in Cincinnati Bengals history when he traded quarterback Carson Palmer to the Oakland Raiders for their 2013 first round draft pick. With that pick the Bengals addressed a specific need on defense by picking up Dre Kirkpatrick.
The Bengals will also have a first or second round pick in 2014 based on the outcome of the Raiders record this season. Former head coach, Hue Jackson (a wide receivers coach with the Bengals from 2004 – 2006) worked this transaction personally with Bengals owner Mike Brown.

Will Lamar Miller be the starting running back of the Bengals?
The Cincinnati Bengals have the quarterback, wide receiver and defense to make a run in 2012. But even after signing Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis in free agency they are missing a stand out running back.
Miami Hurricanes running back Lamar Miller decided to skip his final two seasons of college eligibility to enter the 2012 NFL draft and could make a difference for the Bengals.
Miller ran for 1,272 yards as a red shirt sophomore this season and became the first Miami back to reach 1,000 yards since 2002. He also joins two other underclassmen leaving early, WR – Tommy Streeter and DL – Marcus Forston.
Madden ’13: AJ Green out of the running for cover
No Madden curse for the Cincinnati Bengals this year. The Bengals representative in the ESPN SportsNation cover contest, A.J. Green, lost his first round match-up to running back Ray Rice of the AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens by a 65%-to-35% vote. The top four seeds remaining are Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers, Victor Cruz, and Rob Gronkowski.
2012 NFL draft: Possible selections for the Cincinnati Bengals
If Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green are any indicator of what type of draft the Bengals are going to have with two first round picks then we might as well just hand them the AFC trophy.
Both Dalton and Green were phenomenal in their rookie seasons and both give the Bengals something to finally look forward to.
Most mock draft have the Bengals selecting a corner, offensive lineman or running back in the first round.
The Penalty Flag’s Mike Presley believes the following two players will go to the Bengals in the first round;
Round 1, Pick 17: Janoris Jenkins CB North Alabama:I was looking for a place to put him and I didn’t put him here because of the history of the Bengals taking troubled players. I put him here because the Bengals could use another corner after losing Jonathon Joseph last year in Free Agency. He doesn’t have good size at 5’9 but he has great speed to stay with receivers. He also is a threat in the return game with 390 return yards on the season with three touchdowns.

Round 1, Pick 21: Cordy Glenn Guard Georgia: He may be one of the most flexible offensive lineman in this draft. Not only can he play guard but he can play Tackle as well which will be a benefit for the Bengals if they ever decide to move on from Andre Smith. Glenn’s strength is run blocking and whether it’s Cedric Benson or some other running back, they will be thankful for Glenn’s presence on the Bengals’ offensive line.

SB Nation’s Ryan Van Bibber believes the Bengals will also select Janoris Jenkins;
It will be interesting to see if the Bengals take a fancy to any of the free agent cornerbacks. No addition would make as much of an instant impact for Cincinnati. Until free agency starts, we can project Jenkins here. The former Florida cornerback is solid in coverage and has the speed and ball skill to increase his first-round credentials. All he has to do is assure teams about character issues, which should be easy to do with the Bengals.
With the 21st pick he has the Bengals selecting running back Doug Martin from Boise State calling him a complete back.
FootballsFuture has them selecting Jenkins and Miami running back Lamar Miller.
The Bengals would like to add talent to the secondary, and Jenkins is a bit of a wild card. He has had some off the field issues, which is the reason he played for such a small school. The talent is legit though, and the Bengals have shown they will take a chance if you have the talent.
Cedric Benson is a free agent this off season, but even if he returns, a big play threat like Miller would be a big boost to the offense. He has the skills to be a feature back, so the need becomes even bigger if Benson decides to head elsewhere for the 2012 season.

2012 Mock Draft: AFC North edition
As I continue my way around each division in this mock draft, we land in the AFC North where the winds of change certainly blew within the division. The Pittsburgh Steelers who have owned the North for quite some time, fell to the Baltimore Ravens, not once but twice. They also were a victim of Tim Tebow as the Denver Broncos were able to knock the Steelers right out of the playoffs in the wild card round. As for the Ravens, they struggled at times during the season with devastating losses to the Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars on the way to winning the AFC North. Yet they were able to pull through, make it all the way to the AFC Championship game and was a Lee Evans touchdown away from the Super Bowl.
While the Ravens and Steelers may own the AFC North, they should be worried about the young and upcoming Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals helped the AFC North get three teams into the playoffs for the first time, and that was in part thanks to the success of second round rookie quarterback Andy Dalton. They have two first round picks in the upcoming draft and look to close the gap on the Ravens and Steelers. The Cleveland Browns also have two first round picks and are in prime position for a Franchise Quarterback, or are they?
Cleveland Browns:
Round 1, Pick 4: Trent Richardson RB Alabama: With Robert Griffin off to Washington, the Browns look elsewhere. Peyton Hillis is a Free Agent and there seemed to be issues with the team last year that makes me think he won’t be re-signed. Some say Trent is a better prospect than Mark Ingram and his numbers show why. He had 21 rushing touchdowns and ran for 1,679 yards last season. Richardson is the explosive player the Browns need to get their offense going.
Round 1, Pick 22: Ryan Tannehill QB Texas A & M: It quite didn’t work out with Brady Quinn, and it seems things aren’t working out with Colt McCoy so let’s try this again. At first you don’t succeed, try, try, try, try and well eventually you have to get it right. This has been the main problem for the Browns, and just maybe Ryan Tannehill can be the guy. He threw for 3,744 yards and 29 touchdowns and also ran for 355 yards and four touchdowns. So not only can he make plays with his arm but also his feet.
Cincinnati Bengals:
Round 1, Pick 17: Janoris Jenkins CB North Alabama: I was looking for a place to put him and I didn’t put him here because of the history of the Bengals taking troubled players.
Pittsburgh Steelers:
Round 1, Pick 24: Dontari Poe NT Memphis: Father time seems to have caught up to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Casey Hampton will be 35 a week before Week 1 of the 2012 season and will be coming off ACL surgery. Poe’s size at 6’5 makes him a massive lineman that will make it hard for any center to block. He totaled 33 tackles, eight tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble last season. Poe will play good in either a 3-4 or 4-3 system.
Baltimore Ravens:
Round 1, Pick 29: Mohamed Sanu WR Rutgers: This may shock some people but Sanu isn’t mocked to the Ravens due to Lee Evans dropping the touchdown pass in the AFC Title game. This has more to do with giving Joe Flacco another weapon along side Torrey Smith in the long haul. Anquan Boldin is 32 and it’s unsure how many more years he has left in him so drafting another receiver makes sense. Sanu has a combination of size, quickness, and speed, and he has good hands. He caught 115 passes for 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns. This will give Joe Flacco a good 1-2 punch at receiver with Smith and Sanu.

Bengals’ Maualuga allegedly punched bar owner
No one would be shocked if a Cincinnati Bengals’ player was involved in an altercation and that is exactly what has been alleged by one bar owner.
The manager of a downtown Cincinnati bar says Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga punched him after being told to leave early Sunday morning.
FOX 19 in Cincinnati reports that Sammy Laham, manager of the bar Luxe, says that Maualuga responded to being told it was time for his group to go by punching the messenger.
According to the manager, Maualuga was at Luxe, a bar located at the corner of 6th Street and Main Street in downtown Cincinnati, where he allegedly punched the manager, causing injuries.
“One of them said something at which point I repeated myself, that they had to leave, and then Rey Maualuga got up, took three or four steps and punched me in the face, more noticeably the eye, then my nose started to bleed,” Laham said. “Then security diffused the situation.”
A witness to the incident, Brittany Knight, gave FOX 19 a similar account.
“Rey was leaning up against the bar and he stepped forward and swung,” she said.
Cincinnati Police are investigating. No charges have been filed. Maualuga’s agent, Gary Uberstine, told FOX 19 that he had spoken to Maualuga about the accusation but can’t comment.
On February 2nd, 2010 Maualuga was placed on two years probation for drunk driving. The incident has been reported to have happened only three days after his probation ended.

5 NFL owners who shouldn’t own teams
Thanks to Jim Irsay, this article has been spawned and written. I wrote earlier about how his tweeting could cost him Andrew Luck, now I’m saying that he shouldn’t be owning a NFL team. No other owner is on Twitter and tweeting every day and tweeting non-sense. Now he doesn’t tweet all non-sense, I mean he has given out Super Bowl tickets through contests on his Twitter. Despite that, he needs to stop tweeting as it’s not say, the norm for a business executive who is running one of the prestigious 32 NFL teams. Does that mean the 31 other owners are doing better than Irsay just because they don’t tweet? Not exactly, as there are owners out there who all have their flaws, specifically these five owners. They made this list due to the fact that they mishandle their team, don’t do what’s right for the team, who are cheap and shouldn’t be owning any teams in the NFL.
The Glazer Family: The Glazers own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and have done so since 1995 when Malcolm Glazer purchased the team for $192 Million. Now Tampa does have one Super Bowl, but Malcolm and the entire Glazer family have shown that not only are they cheap but are more concerned about the Manchester United soccer team that he purchased for $1.47 Billion between 2003 and 2005. That is where the trouble started, after buying the Manchester United, they would begin to spend less on players, and it has even rolled over to the coaching staff. Raheem Morris was a cheap hire, and so was new Head Coach Greg Schiano. Until the Glazers sell the team, the Buccaneers will continue to be ignored and be the red headed step child to the Manchester United, the Glazer’s obviously top priority.
Dan Snyder: Our Fantasy Football fanatic of the Washington Redskins makes this list. Dan Snyder purchased the team in 1999 for a whopping $800 Million, which at the time was the biggest transaction in sports history. Not only do we know that he has money, but he loves to spend it and during Free Agency. Snyder has been playing fantasy Football with the Redskins since he has been the owner. Since he has taken over the Redskins are 91-117, they have gone through seven head coaches in just thirteen seasons, and even demanded a removal of sports writer Dave McKenna for just expressing his opinion, and most importantly how can he screw up the Ricky Williams trade and not find players with all those draft picks. There are so many other things I can name but I will stop before he demands me to be removed from the Penalty Flag.
Jim Irsay: Our Tweet obsessive owner who should be more worried about how to handle Peyton Manning and his bonus than tweeting. Irsay right now is doing way too much tweeting and is not being who he should be, a NFL Owner. Owners of any sports team should act mature, and like a business person should, and Irsay is certainly not doing any of that. Right now he is doing his best impression of a NFL Owner, but is not acting like a Owner.
Stephen Ross: This is an owner who is more obsessed with celebrities, the spotlight and well being all about money. When you can say that Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams owned apart of the team, something is clearly wrong. Ross sold pieces of the Dolphins to these celebrities, and why? There is no point of and when your just handing out ownership like it’s cake, you have to be skeptical of how he runs things. Also who can forget how he was recruiting Jim Harbaugh while Tony Sparano was still under contract. Don’t get too comfy in Miami Joe Philbin, Ross may be recruiting your next replacement behind your back already.
Mike Brown: He wasn’t the only person in the state of Ohio who threatened to move a team out of the state, and because of that and many other screw ups Mike Brown is not a fan favorite among Cincinnati Bengals fans. Since his father’s death in 1991, Mike has been in control of the team and just like when Dan Snyder purchased the team, the on the field product suffered. The Bengals have only had 3 winning seasons, out of 21 seasons and are 0-3 in the playoffs since Brown took over. Another reason why fans don’t like him, he is too loyal and keeps coaches when it is obvious a coaching change is needed. He has kept Marvin Lewis despite the fact the Bengals have had not much success, even though they did make the playoffs this past season, until Brown gives up the team, the Bengals will never live up to their true potential.

New Mock Draft Has Different Spin for the Bengals
We’re just under three months away from the NFL Draft and the mock drafts are in full swing. Now that the Senior Bowl has been played, the draftnicks all have a little bit of a better grasp on the prospects and where they may land. This will probably change again in the coming weeks with the Scouting Combine and Pro Days.
Most of us know the Cincinnati Bengals’ biggest needs this offseason and many mock drafts we’ve posted on Cincy Jungle have a similar feel to them. SB Nation’s draft site, Mocking the Draft, has just released their latest first-round mock draft and they have the Bengals taking two high-profile players with their two first round picks.
At pick No. 17, Mocking the Draft has the Bengals taking South Carolina cornerback, Stephon Gilmore.
Stephon Gilmore | Cornerback | South Carolina: The Bengals struggled to find a good replacement for Jonathan Joseph this season and Gilmore is a good replacement. He’s a big cornerback with good quickness and tackling ability.
In their mock, Gilmore is the fourth cornerback taken in the first round with Morris Claibourne, Dre Kirkpatrick and Janoris Jenkins all being picked in front of him. The more I hear about this kid, the more I like. It also sounds like he’s an ideal Mike Zimmer cornerback.
With their second pick, No. 21, Mocking the Draft has the Bengals taking Miami running back, Lamar Miller.
Lamar Miller | Running back | Miami: Cedric Benson’s production has dropped and he’s averaged less than four yards per carry the last two seasons. He’s also 28. His backup Bernard Scott has never shown the ability to take over the top spot. Miller, who is entering the draft following his redshirt sophomore year, could start for the Bengals for years. He’s quick and has great cut and burst ability.
Miller is an exciting player with a lot of big play capability. The Bengals need this type of explosiveness from the position, as they haven’t had it in quite a few years. Miller is the second running back to come off of the board in the first round of this mock draft.
The team could go a variety of different ways with their two picks, but these two positions (and these specific players) make a lot of sense. It’s becoming more and more of a popular opinion that this is the way that they will look. We’ll know more in the coming weeks and months.

Which NFL rookie QB is head of the class in 2011?
“With the first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select, Cam Newton, quarterback, Auburn.” With those words the Carolina Panthers hoped that they had selected a quarterback in which they could build their future and franchise around. The truth of the matter is that there are no guarantees when it comes to any NFL Draft pick. Joe Montana was drafted in the third round by the San Francisco 49ers and Tom Brady was the 199th pick overall taken by the New England Patriots in the sixth round. Combined Montana and Brady have played in eight Super Bowls with seven titles between them. On the other hand, Tim Couch, David Carr, and JaMarcus Russell, were all taken No. 1 overall and their careers never amounted to anything. This season, four rookie quarterbacks drafted in the first two rounds are starting for their respective NFL teams. At the halfway point of their inaugural season, who’s head of the class and who’s barely making the grade? You might be somewhat surprised.
