Broncos Columnist Wants Denver to Think Manning
Every team in the league except the two in the Super Bowl have thought about how Peyton Manning could fit into their plans but Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post says a healthy Manning could be just the tonic to make the Denver Broncos championship-ready.
Kiszla says that, barring marked improvement from Tim Tebow as a passer in the off-season, Denver can’t count on its young left-hander to deliver the necessary goods in today’s pass-happy NFL.
Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts and Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos have both had their share of the limelight this season, but for different reasons.
Injury, speculation and reorganization have led to many wondering what will happen to future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. While, Tebow created “Tebow-Mania” and in John Elway’s mind, Tim Tebow might not be the long-term starter he is stuck because after-all; it was Tebow that helped the Broncos revive a season and even get an unexpected win in the playoffs.
Elway has been hesitant on stating Tebow will be the starter for the 2012 season, but with all signs pointing to Peyton Manning being available, does it give John Elway the out he is searching for?
He’s stuck and not many would want to be in his position. John Elway knows talent and knows what it takes to succeed as a quarterback. Tebow has the competitive nature, is hard-working and even owns the star quality. What he is missing is the general ability to play quarterback.
The fans spoke and they wanted Tim Tebow. Elway gave them what they wanted and at the same time it was exactly what he wanted for the organization. A spark and a playoff berth.
Now that Tebow-Mania has taken over Elway is forced to keep Tebow and let him compete for the starting job.
Can anyone imagine the heat he would take if he didn’t start Tebow next season?
What if Peyton Manning was available and able to take the heat off Elway and Tim Tebow? After all, no one in their right mind would start Tebow over Peyton Manning?
The Broncos wouldn’t need to release Tebow and could still send him in to run every now and then, but Denver would give Peyton something he has never had…defense.
Taking it a step further signing free agent Reggie Wayne to Denver’s young receiver class would add familiarity and instantly the Broncos become a legitimate force.
