Titans Free Agency shows ‘Go Big or Go Home’ mentality
The Tennessee Titans started free agency with a bang and continue to shoot off their gun. Not only did they manage to sign the top guard in Free Agency (Andy Levitre) they also were able to sign an up and coming tight end that can not only block but possesses the speed needed to be a difference maker (Delanie Walker).
Day two the Titans signed running back Shonn Greene. Looking for “smash and dash” again, Greene is the right back for the role.
The one problem, they paid a hefty price tag to bring in a guy for short yardage and goal line work. I guess sometimes you have to pay more for peace of mind?
Sammie Hill brings 330 lbs to the defensive line. He has all the making of a Vince Wilfork or Albert Hanesworth type. The only problem here is the lack of experience. Hill has had six games to start and a very small role in his time with the Lions.
Also signed was a LB from the Colts named Moise Fokou. Fokou adds veteran depth at the LB position. This is important in case Colin McCarthy’s health issues continue. If not the Titans have one of the top line backer corpse in all the NFL.
They made the splash, they brought potential and now they seem to be adding depth.
As a fan you can feel good about the Titans. For once they actually did something they needed to do. We can go into the next phase of the free agent frenzy wondering where their road will take them next. There are still a variety of name players on the market as well as solid players with good upside that remain and who knows maybe a big named offense or defensive guy can be signed to give the fan base some star power to root for. After a 6-10 record one more solid signing can turn a fan bases frown upside down.
They next phase of the free agent frenzy can show a lot about what teams will be going for in the upcoming draft. After two days it is becoming very clear the Titans will be going for that much-needed pass rusher. Maybe someone like Chance Warmack if he is still there, but the guys at DE and CB will be very fitting with the roster they are putting together. Not to mention they could just take the best player available if they believe in Sammie Hill. Having options and being in a place to upgrade with your pick and not just need a certain position is where we want to see this team.
Keep trudging forward Mr. Webster and let’s go for a grade A free agency.
