Titans: Firing of Reinfeldt comes a year too late

Bud Adams 300x201 Titans: Firing of Reinfeldt comes a year too lateYou can be angry or just plain upset with the Tennessee Titans this season but one thing remains; Hope.

Why is there still hope? Mr. Adams finally put an end to the miscommunication between Mike Reinfeldt and Rustin Webster. Obviously, there was a different view of the future between these two gentlemen. With those different views showing clearly in 2012’s offseason.

Reinfeldt’s direction; Sign Micheal Griffin and Jordan Babineaux, bring in Robert Johnson (who plays the same position as Griffin), sign a veteran offensive guard in Steve Hutchinson, and stick with offensive lineman already on the team claiming that the free agents brought in were not better than what the Titans already had. Remember that Reinfeldt was the president and in charge of free agent signings.

Rustin Webster’s direction; Draft Jake Locker, Kendall Wright, Zach Brown, Mike Martin, Jurell Casey, Karl Klug, Colin McCarthy, Coty Sensabaugh, and others. One of Webster’s duties is to draft and evaluate talent.

Signing a guy like Robert Johnson made no sense. Is he good? Yes. Does he fit? No. He plays the same position as Griffin. Which means Griffin had to play out of position when Johnson was on the field. Why does that matter? Babineaux plays in mostly run packages where he is most effective and Griffin plays all passing downs due to his ability to intercept the long ball. The titans failed to bring in the counterpart to Griffin so he can take on his natural role that lets his ability fly.

Next, was the parade of veteran offensive linemen. One of these guys was needed to add to the newly acquired Hutchinson. The Titans experienced down production from the offensive line in the run plays in 2011. Needed mostly was a veteran center to fix this problem. They could have gotten a guy in the draft, but instead opted to draft Zach Brown. A guy who has been has played very well and completes the defense. This shouldn’t have been a problem with three top guys out on the market in free agency. Three veteran guys at the Center position with a few more that have experience.

Two issues that have shown up greatly in the Titans losses of the season and issues that now have to be fixed.

Hope comes from the firing of Mr. Reinfeldt. That hope is in the form of one man. Rustin Webster ( who now has full control over player personnel and can now continue to draft solid players for positions only he may know, and can now make up for any lacking through free agency and build the vision that he sees). This vision can be built without another person tearing it down or failing to complete it. For whatever reason this has been the case and has exposed the Titans on the field.
