Saints set record: Worst defense in NFL history
There are some things Drew Brees can do nothing about and defense is one of them.
Just how bad was the New Orleans Saints defense this season? The last-ranked defense has now allowed more yards in a season than any defense in NFL history.
By allowing 287 yards in the first half against the Carolina Panthers in Week 17, they passed the 1981 Baltimore Colts.
Only twice this season did the Saints allow less than 23 points. (Eagles – 13, Raiders – 17)
Back in Week 5, Linebacker Scott Shanle stated “The talent is there. Yes, some of the numbers out there are bad, and it’s hard to justify it any other way. But I believe that we are not the worst defense in the league and those stats are a little premature. People need to hold off awhile before judging us.’
Is it O.K. to judge them now?
This marks the first year of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s season, can’t say it was very successful.
