Richard Sherman: 2012 season in review
The Seattle Seahawks had one of the most feared defenses in the 2012 NFL season. Mainly because they have arguably the best secondary in the game of football. They finished sixth in the NFL in pass defense and one of the reasons was cornerback Richard Sherman. He may talk a lot of trash but he can back every bit of it up. He was a big reason the Seahawks were so successful in 2012.
Richard Sherman finished the year with eight interceptions, three forced fumbles, 42 passes defended, 53 tackles, and one sack. His biggest stat thought is QB’s in 2012 only completed 44.4% of their passes in his direction. This stat is made even more impressive when you consider the level of QB talent he faced in 2012. He went up against the likes of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, and Colin Kaepernick. Another crazy stat for Sherman is opposing QBs only had an against quarterback rating 44.9 %. His 2012 numbers were unbelievable.
The knock on Sherman though is he talks to much. He was slapped in the face after the Redskins playoff win, and he and Darrelle Revis recently had a twitter fight. But while some say Sherman running his mouth is a problem, some say it just makes him even better. If Richard Sherman can get inside opposing receivers heads, and make them commit a mistake, that just makes him an even better corner.
The best part of it all is, the Seahawks have him signed through the 2014 season for just over 1.5 million dollars. Of course he very well may get an extension. But for now, the Seattle Seahawks have one of the best CB’s in the league for cheap. And if the Seahawks want to make a Super Bowl run, they will need Sherman on their team.
