Is Brandon Weeden a better choice than Colt McCoy?

The Cleveland Browns were hoping to have the same results other NFL teams with their rookie quarterback selection of Brandon Weeden. It’s safe to say things didn’t go as planned.

Weeden struggled in the West Coast offense, throwing more interceptions than touchdowns.

His play has left many questioning the selection in the first round.

In his first game, Weeden had a 5.1 passer rating after throwing four interceptions in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Wikipedia, it was the sixth lowest rating in a season opener by any quarterback attempting at least 15 passes since the merger in 1970.

Many NFL teams continue to struggle at the quarterback position and don’t seem to do anything about it, so at least the Browns took a chance.

Sure, it was smart to see what Weeden had to offer, but it was nothing spectacular.

Completing 57% of his passes, he ended the 2012 season with a QBR of 72.6 which was roughly around what other fellow rookie’s averaged. It was his lack of the big play ability that separated him from an Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, or Robert Griffin III.

It has left Browns fans wondering what exactly happened to Colt McCoy?

After suffering a brutal concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers the way the organization handled the situation was called into question not only by the NFL but McCoy’s father.

Suddenly, it was as if McCoy was no longer… He had fallen out of favor.

Changes have left the Browns under new management from top to bottom and they are forced to re-look at Colt McCoy. The question…what will they find?
