If NFL season tells us anything, bet Bengals for Super Bowl
The 2012 NFL season has been full of upsets, questionable wins and basically things that don’t make any sense.
At the beginning of the season, odds were Andy Dalton, A.J. Green and the Cincinnati Bengals weren’t going to take over the Steelers in the AFC North, but they did just that by knocking them out of the playoffs. A bit of payback for all those years the Bengals have been complete garbage.
The last time Cincinnati made the playoffs in consecutive seasons was back in 1981-82 and this is the first time they’ll make the postseason in two straight non-strike years.
If this season tells us anything, the smart money is on the Bengals for the Super Bowl. Currently 50-to-1, if you were to lay $100 on the Bengals to win the Super Bowl you would win $5,000 if they won.
The Bengals have never won the Super Bowl, but have played in two and lost both to the San Francisco 49ers. (XVI, XXIII)
It seems improbable the Bengals would travel to New England and beat the Patriots, then to only follow it up with a trip to Houston or Denver and escape with a win, but the NFL has been filled with so much parity this season putting money on the improbable might be worth it.
