How much would you pay Tony Romo?
Imagine Jerry Jones did the unthinkable and relinquished his duties of General Manager and offered them to you. He gave you full control over the fate of the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Tony Romo. How much would you pay him? How would you structure his contract? Would you trade him?
After taking over for Drew Bledsoe and leading the Cowboys to back-to-back playoff appearances, Tony Romo was rewarded with a contract worth $67.5 million at the end of 2007.
Now, to save money to create room for the Cowboys to operate in free agency they must cut his 2013 salary by offering more money down the line.
His average salary is $12.7 million per year.
In what range does he fall?
Joe Flacco: Could ask for $20 million per year
Drew Brees: $20 million
Michael Vick: $16.9 million
Philip Rivers: $14.3 million
Matt Schaub: $13.2 million
Ryan Fitzpatrick: $10.45 million
Jay Cutler: $8.47 million
Since his contract extension he has only led the Cowboys to one playoff win, but Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett stand behind him do you?
The 2012 NFL Top 100 by the NFL Network ranked Tony Romo as the 12th best quarterback in the league going into the 2012 season.
At 33 he could have at least a few more years left and unless he is replaced with someone like Peyton Manning or Drew Brees it doesn’t make sense for the Cowboys to move on, but a contract that awards a huge bonus for each round of the playoffs could be interesting.
