Could Anquan Boldin be with the Redskins next season?

Could Anquan Boldin be with the Redskins next season?

Before the kickoff of Super Bowl XLVII, there was word in the NFL rumor mill that the Baltimore Ravens were looking at the possibility of trading Anquan Boldin during this upcoming offseason. The Super Bowl is over and the Baltimore Ravens were able to hold on for the win over the San Francisco 49ers with Anquan Boldin contributing with a touchdown grab and over 100 yards receiving. The Washington Redskins on the other hand are very more than likely to do a little maneuvering to their roster this offseason as far as cutting people to make room under the salary cap and make some deals and you can bet that they could be looking at Anquan Boldin. That leads to this question: Could Anquan Boldin be a Redskin next season?

At this day and time it is really hard to tell. You can bet that the Ravens front office in Ozzie Newsome and owner Steve Bischotti are going to look over their roster and lineup very well and see what pieces of the puzzle that they will need as far as going forward. The reports came out on ESPN that they were thinking about trading Anquan Boldin this coming offseason. Would Mike Shanahan be willing to make a deal with the Ravens to get the services of Boldin? What players on the Redskins current roster would Dan Snyder and Shanahan be willing to give up in order to get Anquan Boldin? How about dealing some draft picks?

The big factor in order for the Redskins to even think about going after Anquan Boldin would be the status of Santana Moss for 2013. Moss did have a good year in 2012 as far as scoring goes as the receiver finished his 12th year in the NFL with 8 touchdown catches and leading the team. He was second on the team in receiving yards but he was also part of a quartet that had 500+ receiving yards with Pierre Garcon leading the way with 633 yards despite missing half the season. Anquan Boldin would be a perfect replacement for Santana Moss if he were step away from the game this offseason and would give RG3 a proven WR that certainly loves to catch the ball over the middle of the playing field.

The wide receiver corps will certainly be something that the Washington Redskins will be pondering over during this offseason. Several questions have to be answered and one them is whether or not that Santana Moss will be coming back to play in his 13th season. There was a very good distribution of the ball in 2012 by the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in RG3 and you can bet that it will happen again in 2013. This is rhetorically speaking and rhetorically thinking but if Santana Moss decides to call it career during this offseason, there is some sliver of a chance that Snyder and Shanahan could be inquiring about the services of Anquan Boldin for 2013.

  1. No way that Santana retires this offseason. He says this is the best he has felt in years, and he is among the most excited for the future of the team. I’d love to have Boldin, but I just don’t see it happening. Shanahan is aiming for younger players to build around, and I’m sure Boldin is owed a decent amount of cash next year. Our draft picks are precious because of the cap situation, and DB and OT are the two priorities right now.

  2. Couple days before the Super Bowl, ESPN reported that the Ravens were looking to deal Boldin and with the all the excess recievers and the ones that contributed this year, I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt take a look at him….
