Chiefs 2013 NFL mock draft: Andy Reid trades down

Chiefs 2013 NFL mock draft: Andy Reid trades down

For the new look Kansas City Chiefs under Andy Reid, the number one priority was to find a franchise quarterback. The Chiefs knew they needed to upgrade the position from Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn and did so by bringing over Alex Smith.

The Chiefs also were able to provide Smith with a top notch wide receiver in Dwayne Bowe who was given a 5-year contract to stay in K.C.

With that being said, I am projecting a trade as the Chiefs trade the number one pick and acquire more picks to continue building around Alex Smith in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Round 1, Pick 5: DeMarcus Milliner CB Alabama: With Smith coming to town, upgrading the offensive line should be priority number one. Brandon Albert has been given the Franchise tag, and if they re-sign him then a trade will happen which is why I’m projecting a trade. In this projection, I have the Lions moving to one and taking Luke Joeckel allowing the Chiefs to take DeMarcus Milliner at five. They foolishly let Brandon Carr walk off to Dallas, but luckily a talented corner like Miller is available in this year’s draft. Have to improve their secondary to help stop Peyton Manning twice a year.

Round 2, Pick 36(via DET)- Larry Warford G Kentucky: I can’t project how many picks they would get by trading the number one pick but I do know they would acquire a second round pick. So with the Lions pick they go offensive line with Larry Warford. Albert was franchised but they do need help on the interior line and some help in the running game will allow Jamaal Charles to take some load off Alex Smith.

Round 3, Pick 63: Jesse Williams NT Alabama: This is pretty low for Williams but I do expect him to be a second round pick by April. If the Chiefs decide it would be too risky to take Star Lotulelei, they can take Milliner’s team mate in Williams. They did draft Poe last year but under a new regime, Andy Reid may want his own nose tackle.

Round 4, Pick 96: William Gholston DE Michigan State: Glenn Dorsey is a free agent and has been a bust his entire career. Tyson Jackson was over drafted a few years ago and now they need some new 3-4 defensive ends. Gholston is a solid pick here and should provide an upgrade on the defensive line over Dorsey.
