Geno Smith doing impressions of Mark Sanchez
Is it me or did Geno Smith do a great impression of Mark Sanchez? The New York Jets most recent game was a reminder of what happens when the defense can’t keep up their end of the bargain. At 2-1 this was a game to show if the Jets were for real or just lucky? Guess lady luck wasn’t a fan of the New York Jets.
There is a silver lining for everything and while watching the game I started searching for them after Geno Smith went turnover crazy. Let’s see the receiving corp didn’t drop many balls especially since they loss Stephen Hill so early in the game. The receivers seemed to be finding the soft spots in the zone and getting open even in man coverage. They might not get the ball but they at least gave Geno some type of opportunity. CJ2K isn’t considered in APs league anymore after having that argument a few years back however, he is still explosive like a bomb when in the open field. Unlike last year when he broke a long one this year Chris Johnson couldn’t find a crease. You know he was part of the game plan to be stopped when Jackie Battle gained more yards on fewer carries. The running backs combined for 63 yards on 26 carries. Nick Folk was reliable as ever. Yeah, I know I’m pushing it but it wasn’t an easy game to watch.
If you were able to watch the entire game then you know who are the three Jets players that deserve to be on this list: Darrin Walls, Geno Smith, and Vladimir Ducasse. Darrin Walls made everyone remember that Revis was a luxury that Rex Ryan can’t afford to forget because this isn’t the same secondary as before. It also reminds us how horrible Kyle Wilson is that he will never be the starter. The fact that the guy on the other team, Alterraun Verner, went in the fourth round of the same draft and has become more of a top-tier corner shows what could have been. Geno Smith was terrible. For every fantastic throw he made, which weren’t many, he straight up bombed in this game. The fact that he was drafted to replace the turnover happy Mark Sanchez and yet is displaying a lot of the same tendencies doesn’t bode well for the team. I don’t care what the team said about Sanchez not winning the preseason battle I believed he could have done more now that he had a very good offensive system. Ducasse went from being in the good section to almost making the ugly. All I could say it, watch Remember the Titans and the scene where the little girl says, “He’s getting beat like he stole something….he’s just getting beat that’s all I’m saying” came to mind. It was horrible display and maybe it’s time to try out Brian Winters.
Stupid Penalties. 4 turnovers=28 points. The score. Mike Munchak comments after the game.
The New York Jets will now face an Atlanta Falcons team that needs to show that they are still elite. Here’s hoping the Jets after getting spanked around a little are just as upset and ready to play hard.
