3 reasons Percy Harvin’s attitude won’t be a problem
The Seattle Seahawks biggest off-season acquisition has been Percy Harvin, but he does not come without questions. Seattle needed a big name receiver, Sidney Rice and Golden Tate are both very solid, but the Seahawks still needed something more. That’s where Percy Harvin comes in. He is a yards after catch machine, who is also a very strong kick return man, and speedster. But there are questions about Harvin. He is expensive, he has had issues with coaching along with other off the field issues, and he has been rather injury prone over his career. Now that he is in Seattle, these reasons won’t affect him for three reasons.
1. Harvin will get his money
All players want to get paid, Percy Harvin is no different. Harvin will earn 36 million over the next three years. He is not being paid at an elite level, but he does take up some big cap room for the Hawks. This is not at all a problem, many of their current star players are on rookie contracts and are cheap. The contract of Harvin is not an issue. He will get his money, and the Seahawks aren’t taking up their whole cap for paying him.
2. Pete Carroll will solve his off the field issues
Marshawn Lynch used to have many off the field problems. He had been suspended before for getting a misdemeanor, and missed three games. That same 2009 season he only ran for 450 yards. People thought he was done. Look at him now. He is one of the best backs in the league. Percy Harvin has had many problems with coaching, but he is on a Super Bowl contender team, with a superstar in the making at quarterback. He is in almost a perfect position to succeed. If he keeps acting up, Pete Carroll will simply cut him. He has done it to big name players before (T.J. Houshmandzadeh). The team would be fine without him.
3. Injuries should not be as big as a problem
There is no way to guarantee that Harvin will not get hurt. Most of Harvin’s issues over his career, have been migraines and freak diseases. There is a good chance that both of those could completely disappear and if Harvin is healthy, he is a very dangerous receiver.
Percy Harvin has the chance with the Seahawks to become one of the most élite receivers in the game. If he keeps himself in check, the Seahawks have a tremendous upgrade to the receiving corps.
