2012 NFL Draft: Is RG3 the Right Fit for the Redskins?
The Washington Redskins will be sitting at home for the playoffs and while the early word is that Mike Shannahan will stay on as the head coach, the new question is who will be playing QB next year. Rex Grossman had a dismal year in which he threw an interception in 12 straight games. The Skins will be getting a top ten draft pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and if Dan Snyder had any sense he would go straight for the reigning Heisman Trophy winner in Robert Griffin III out of Baylor University.
The way that the draft order is stacking, all of the teams ahead of the Skins have established QB’s which opens the door for the possibility of selcting RG3. Andrew Luck should most certainly go to the Colts which means that the Skins should have a shot at Griffin. Griffin is the right fit for Washington because he has the size (6’3″ 200lbs.) and he certainly has the smarts (he has already graduated and is working on a masters degree). Alot of scouts are comparing him to Cam Newton and while people would compare Griffin to Jason Campbell, there is too much upside to Griffin and his potenital is one that will make him better than Campbell in the long run. Griffin comes from a career military family so you know that he was made to walk the line!
The bottom line is that anything would be better than Grossman and John Beck and whoever else that Snyder and Shannahan can come up with. Robert Griffin III may not be the best QB in the upcoming draft but he is certainly the best QB in the draft that would fit in with the Redskins. 77 TDS and 17 INTS over his collegiate career show that Griffin is accurate and protects the ball. His biggest asset is going to be his speed. Times where Grossman would throw a stupid interception on the run would be ones where RG3 could use his speed and pick up a first down.
The way things look, Mike Shannanhan and the entire coaching staff of the Skins will be back for 2012. Some Skins fans want him and some want a change. Shanny would get off on the right foot for the season if he were to select Robert Griffin III with his first round draft pick. It has been a long time since so much hype has been surrounded with a potential draft pick for the Burgandy and Gold. The future of the franchise is looking at them in the face. RG3 is the right fit for the Redskins and it is only a matter of Dan Snyder being able to pick up that missing piece.
